Clara Lemmon scored a game-high 17 points, Jordan Monnot added 14, and Hannah Lemmon scored 11 to lead the Lady Leopards to a 59-51 victory over the visiting Perry Lady Panthers Wednesday.  With the victory Louisville is now 8-3 on the season and 2-2 against Federal League foes.

Perry gained an early 5-0 advantage in the contest, but Louisville quickly turned the game around by scoring the next 10 points.  All five starters scored in the opening quarter in which the Beatty's Winter HoodiesLady Leopards produced 18 points.  Clara Lemmon scored three baskets in the quarter to lead Louisville, while Monnot matched her feat in the second quarter.  The Lady Leopards went into the half with a solid 33-22 lead.

The Lady Panthers made things interesting in the third quarter as they flew out of the locker room on a 13-4 run to cut the Leopard lead to 37-35.  For the evening, Perry was led by Marwah Hmeidan with 14 points, Britt Miner with 13 points, an Marissa Knop with 9 points. However, their efforts were not enough to overtake the Leopards who used two quick baskets by Clara Lemmon and Monnot to increase their lead to 41-35.

The Panthers would get within three points twice in the final quarter, but each time the Leopards responded.  After a three-ball by Perry’s Britt McCaulley, Clara Lemmon drove to the hole to make it 45-40.  Perry responded with another field goal, but then Louisville delivered the dagger.  Sisters Clara Lemmon and Hannah Lemmon hit consecutive three-pointers to give Louisville a 9-point advantage.  The Panthers would never recover from those blows and the Leopards kept their advantage the remainder of the contest.  The Lemmon sisters would combine for 14 of Louisville’s 18 points in the final period to seal the victory.

The game featured just 7 fouls each by both squads and the contest was over before the clock hit 8:40 PM.  Although there were not many free throws fired, Louisville was a perfect 5 of 5 from the line on the evening.  This is also part of the reason that the Panthers conceded in the final minute.  Perry was nowhere near the penalty as they had just one foul for the entire second half heading into the final minute.  They would pick up one additional foul, but the game would still end with Louisville dribbling out the clock.

The Lady Leopards are now 15-20 against the Lady Panthers all-time and have taken 3 out of the last 4 games in the series.  Louisville has also won 17 out of their last 18 games at home in the Jungle.  They will look to continue this run when they host the Alliance Aviators on Saturday.

AUTHOR NOTE: On December 9, 2010 I took an old camera to the old LHS Gym and covered Louisville Sports for this website for the first time.  You will find videos I filmed for Louisville Football earlier that year for Akron Sports Now on this site, but the 12/9/2010 Girls Basketball Game between Louisville and visiting Perry will always be counted as my first game for louisvilleleopards.org.  There were only 983 visits to my site in December 2010, but in December 2012 that number increased to 6,009 visits.  I just want to thank all of you who have supported me in my seemingly infinite quest to cover Louisville athletics, especially those loyal Leopard fans who read every post!
