Siegfried Ties Multiple Records on Career Night

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdJust one week removed from breaking the Louisville single game assist record (14 against Lake), junior point guard Beau Siegfried continued to add to his accolades at Marlington. Siegfried didn’t score in the first quarter or the fourth quarter, but still poured in a career high 26 points to go along with 7 assists.

Siegfried tied a second quarter team record with 4 three-pointers as Louisville closed the first half scoring 24 unanswered. He caught fire again after the break in also tying a third quarter team record with 4 three-pointers in that period as well. Siegfried’s 8 three-pointers also matches the LHS record for a road contest. Previously Tyler Boldon cashed in on 8 three-pointers at Howland in 2022 and Brandon Wahl made 8 three-pointers at Marlington in 2018

Will Aljancic still holds the single game record for any location. He hit 9 three-pointers at home against Canton South in 2022.

Leopards Tie Team 3-Pointer Record

Lingenhoel Group - Arden and Lisa Lingenhoel - Cutler Real Estate AdSiegfried wasn’t the only Leopard hitting from beyond the arch Tuesday. Five different Louisville players hit from long range as Louisville tied a team record with 15 three-pointers on the night. Junior guard Ashton Marshall hit a three-pointer to open the contest. Junior guard Tate Aljancic, sophomore guard Luke Boldon, and senior guard Hayden Nigro would all finish with a pair of three-pointers each before the final horn sounded.

The Leopards cleared the bench with 1:27 remaining in the fourth quarter. However, Boldon hit from the right wing twice via passes from sophomore guard Gabe Stoffer in the final 75 seconds to secure a tie of the team record.

The only other time Louisville made 15 three-pointers in a game came in a 74-64 home victory over New Philadelphia on January 5, 2008. The 15 three-pointers is a road game record eclipsing the previous mark of 13 made in a 71-65 loss at Howland on January 11, 2022.

Nigro Drops in 20 for Louisville

Equitable Advisors - Bryce MathieNigro scored 12 of his 20 points in the opening half for the Leopards and also registered 6 assists. Junior forward Brayden Gross also reached double figures with 10.

Other scores for Louisville included Aljancic with 8, Boldon with 6, Marshall with 5, Avery Andrejcik with 4, and Kolton Loy with 4.

Leopards Take Over with 31-0 Run

Believe it or not, the two teams traded punches during the first eleven minutes of action. The Leopards took a 5-0 lead at the onset, but the Dukes answered with a 7-0 run to take their only lead of the game. Louisville responded with a 9-2 run and held a 16-14 advantage by the end of the first quarter.

The two teams exchanged points six times to open the second quarter. Freshman shooting guard Parker Woods’ basket with 5:09 left to play before halftime got the Dukes within 22-20. Marlington wouldn’t score again in the opening half and was held off the board for seven minutes of game time overall.

Meanwhile, the Leopard offense was relentless as they compiled a 31-0 run that spanned into the second half. Louisville rolled into the half up 46-20 and expanded their advantage to 53-20 after Nigro hit a pair of free throws with 6:16 to play in the third.

Junior Dylan Heatherington scored the other way to end the drought with 6:08 on the clock and it sparked a 6-0 Duke run.

However, the Leopards flexed their might a few minutes later with a 16-0 run that put the blue and white in front 73-32. That string of points invoked the mercy rule and the clock ran for the rest of the game.

Evanich and Hetherington Lead Dukes

Freshman Cameron Evanich and Heatherington both finished with a team high 8 to lead Marlington. Heatherington scored all 8 of his points in the third quarter, including a buzzer beater that ended Louisville’s second big run.

Senior Beau Himmelheber and Woods also each added 7 for Marlington.

The Dukes have now dropped 4 of their last 6 and fall to 7-9 overall on the campaign.

Louisville Vs. Marlington Basketball Series

The Leopards have now defeated the Dukes in back-to–back seasons. Louisville has now won 13 of the last 15 meetings in the rivalry overall, which includes 6 of the last 7 at Marlington.

The Leopards lead the all-time series 74-40 over the Dukes dating back to their first meeting in 1963. Louisville also holds a 33-21 edge in games played at Marlington in the series.

This was the most lopsided margin in the history of the rivalry. The Dukes won at Louisville 79-39 for a 40-point difference back on December 8, 1978. The Leopards also earned a 40-point victory at home against Marlington last season 91-51.
