Varsity Video Highlights
Louisville 51, Minerva 37
After a wild first half that featured more fouls than field goals, the Lady Leopards outscored the Minerva Lions 12-1 in third quarter to take a commanding lead. Visiting Louisville would end up winning the contest 51-37. The Lady Leopards were led by Jordan Monnot’s 19 points and Hollyann Mullett’s 10 points.
Both teams reached the double bonus during a first half that saw 24 combined fouls. Nine different players had three or more fouls for the game, but amazingly no one fouled out and no Louisville player recorded more than three. Monnot scored 11 of her game-high 19 points in the opening half and Mullett hit home 2 three-pointers to lead the Leopards to a 25-20 halftime lead.
Out of the locker room, the Lady Leopards took control of the contest with a 10-0 run to start the third. Five different Louisville players scored in the period which saw them outscore their opposition 12-1. The Leopards defense didn’t give up a single point until the final minute of the third quarter and completely shutout the Lions from the field. Louisville roared into the final frame with a 37-21 advantage.
Minerva made a run in the fourth quarter, but Louisville matched them bucket-for-bucket. Jacklyn Russell scored 5 of her 7 points for Minerva in the final period, but Lorin Clark (10 points) and Raychel Blocher (9 points) led the Lady Lions for the game. Emily Nees also tallied 6 points for Louisville
The damage had been done and Louisville cruised to their 13th straight NBC Victory. The Lady Leopards are now 35-18 against the Lady Lions all-time and 16-10 when playing at Minerva. Louisville has now taken the last three games of the series.
The Lady Leps will have the week off to prepare for a showdown with the West Branch Warriors at Louisville High School next Saturday. A game that last season determined the league crown.
