#1 Lacrosse Advances to State in Inaugural Season
LHS welcomed a one new addition to its sports family during the 2014-15 school year. After much anticipation, the Louisville Leopards Lacrosse team took the field for the first time on March 31 with a 14-2 convincing victory over the visiting Canfield Cardinals. Louisville went on to start the season 6-0.
With a tough end to their schedule, the Leopards ended the season losing 3 of their last 5 games. Their 8-3 record earned them the fourth seed in the OHSLA Club Division Tournament. Louisville defeated Olmsted Falls 10-4 and then rallied to defeat Ottawa Hills 19-9 to advance to the State Tournament at Olentangy Orange High School.
On May 29, 2015 our #1 Top Memory took place when the Leopards took on the Lebanon Warriors who were the top ranked team in the State. Louisville did not seem to care as they scored the first four goals of the game and never relinquished their lead. The 20-13 win was their highest scoring match of the season.
Jake Mathie tied a team record by scoring 6 goals in the contest and Austin Terra also scored 4 goals & had 3 assists. Zach Frank and Jared Holland also each recorded a Hat Trick during the onslaught.
The Leopards took a 17-9 lead over the Warriors before cruising to the 20-13 win.
The very next day Louisville fell to the Bellbrook Eagles 12-5 in the OHSLA Club Division State Championship. It was a bittersweet ending to an 11-4 season and an unforgettable tournament run. The Leopards players received their runner-up medals and OHSLA Club Division Coach of the Year Gary Anile accepted the State Runner-up Plaque.
And this was only the first season of Leopards Lacrosse…What’s Next?
