Alex Fankhauser Grand Slam Louisville Leopards Vs. Lake Blue Streaks 2018

DI Massillon District Softball Tournament 2019

My Fit Life Personal Trainer AdLouisville Leopards Softball has been voted the #2 Seed in the Division I Massillon District and will host the winner of #10 Marietta Tigers at #7 Akron Ellet Orangemen in the DI Massillon Sectional Finals on Wednesday, May 8 at 5:00 PM.

In a District full of rivalry and familiarity, the Lady Leopards first opponent this postseason will be anything but. Louisville has never faced Akron Ellet in team history and Marietta (7-12) only twice. The Leopards last faced the Tigers at home in the 2015 DI Massillon Sectional Semifinals, a game that Louisville defeated Marietta 11-1 in six innings. The Leopards also downed the Tigers 3-1 at home in the 2006 DI Sectional Semifinals during their only other meeting.

The Defending State Champion Perry Panthers also drew the #3 Seed and if chalk holds will be on a collision course with Louisville in the District Semifinals on Monday, May 13. The game would be a rematch of last year’s District Championship game in which the Panthers won 9-0. The Leopards won at Perry earlier this season 8-3 and have won their last four regular season meetings overall. If both teams advance, LHS will look to rewrite history as they are are 0-5 against the Panthers in tournament play all-time. Perry is current ranked #4 and Louisville is ranked #10 in the latest OHSFSCA Division I Poll.

The Lake Blue Streaks earned the #1 overall seed bolstering a record of 15-1 on the year. Their only defeat came in a 6-3 home loss against #3 seed Perry back on April 2. Lake has ripped off 11 straight victories since including avenging their loss to the Panthers with a 4-2 road win at Perry on April 24. The Leopards fell to the Blue Streaks 5-3 in the season opener on the Diamond of Dreams back on March 30. Lake knocked Louisville out in a 5-3 win in the 2017 District Semifinals at Massillon. But the Lady Leopards returned the favor by using a walk-off Grand Slam by Alex Fankhauser to down the Lady Streaks 5-2 in the 2018 District Semifinals. Louisville is 1-3 against Lake all-time in the tournament.

If the higher seeds hold, Lake will meet the #4 seed North Canton Hoover Vikings in the District Semifinals. The Blue Streaks shutout the Vikings at Goodpasture Stadium 8-0 on April 10. Louisville also earned a 2-0 shutout at North Canton a week later on April 17.
