Louisville Wins at North Canton For the 1st Time…Ever – Softball

Louisville Leopards at North Canton Hoover Vikings Softball 2019

Louisville 2, North Canton Hoover 0

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Softball Team shutout the host North Canton Hoover Vikings Wednesday Evening at Goodpasture Stadium. With their fifth straight victory, Louisville improves to 10-2 on the year.

Sarah Cantley pitched a 2-hit complete game shutout and struck out 11 to lead the Lady Leopards. Only two Vikings advanced to second base during the game and the first came via an error in the third inning. Following that error, Cantley retired the next 10 Hoover batters in a row before Kaitlynn O’Donnell hit a 2-out single to right. She then rung up 3 of the final 4 batters she faced to end the game and earn her second straight shutout of the Vikings. To put the feat into perspective, no other Louisville pitcher in team history has multiple victories against North Canton.

Teagan Rice drove in the only runs of the contest on a 1-out, 2-run double to right field in the third inning. After a ground out to begin the frame, Lexi Zavarelle walked on 5 pitches and Sydney McKeever singled to third base on the next pitch. Both runners scored on Rice’s double that extended her hitting streak to 7 games and gave LHS a lead that would not relinquish.

In a tournament like atmosphere, hits came at a premium. Louisville out-hit North Canton 4-2 for the game. Zavarelle singled in the fifth and Justina Sirohman also singled in the seventh, but neither advanced past second base.

The victory marks the first time the Lady Leopards have ever had a winning streak against the Lady Vikings as they shut them out at home 3-0 last season. This is also the first road win at Hoover in team history dating back to their first game at North Canton in 1985. Louisville is now 6-39 against the Vikings all-time and 1-24 in games played at Hoover.

UP NEXT: The Louisville Leopards Softball Team will next host the Canfield Cardinals on Thursday, April 18 at 5:00 PM.
