Leopards Fall to Panthers 9-0, Finish as District Runner-Up – Softball
#2 Perry 9, #1 Louisville 0
The top seed Louisville Leopards Softball Team was shutout by the 2nd seed Perry Panthers 9-0 in the DI Massillon District Championship game Thursday Evening at the Eagles #190 Sports Complex. The loss snaps the Lady Leopards second 11-game winning streak of the season as they fall to 22-2 on the year.
Teagan Rice batted 2-for-3 with a double to lead Louisville. Sarah Cantley also singled in the seventh and threw 9 strikeouts in a complete game effort for the Leopards.
Payton Gottshall pitched a complete game 3-hit shutout in the circle for the Panthers. Gottshall fanned 9 Louisville batters on the way to earning the victory.
Sunny Armstrong batted 3-for-4 with a 2-run homer in the fifth and a 3-run homer in the seventh to lead the Panthers offense. Gia Durieux also broke the deadlock with a 2-run blast in the fourth and Gottshall hit the second of back-to-back homers in the seventh. The only other Perry run came when Madison Snyder hit a sac fly to score Rylee Pireu in the fifth.
The Leopards have now finished as District Runner-Ups 5 times in their history with this being their second time doing so in Division I. Louisville is now 34-34 all-time in postseason play which includes a 5-15 mark in tournament games played at a neutral location.
