The Louisville Lady Leopards Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team doubled up the visiting Canfield Cardinals 12-6 Thursday Evening at Louisville Leopards Stadium. With their sixth straight victory, Louisville improves to 8-1 on the season.

Alexa Oberster scored a team-leading 4 goals, tallied an assist, and won 13 of 20 face-offs to lead the Leopards. Emily Hollifield and Liz Pugh also recorded 2 goals & 1 assist each for Louisville.

The Cardinals led 2-1 early on, but the Leopards scored 3 goals in a span of 1:06 to double Canfield’s score at 4-2. Oberster intercepted a Cardinal pass and took it all the way to the net to start the run. Just 11 seconds after that, Hollifield assisted Pugh on a score. The same combination in reverse produced another Louisville goal less than a minute later.

The Cardinals would get to within 7-5 at the break, but the Leopards would score the first 3 goals of the second half to pull ahead 10-5. Canfield would score just one time in the second half as Louisville shut them out over the final 13:05.

Celia Keefe finished with 6 saves at goalie for the Leopards. Emily Hollifield also caused 3 turnovers and Katie Hollifield caused 2 turnovers defensively. Both Oberster and Lindsey Pugh were also credited with takeaways.

Seven different Louisville players would score in the contest. Kloe Mercorelli opened the Leopards scoring by intercepting an attempted Cardinal clear and taking it all the way in for a score. Mandy Wesely and Alexis Pochubay also scored unassisted second half goals.

Louisville fielded 18 ground balls as a team led by Oberster’s team-leading 6. Emily Hollifield also finished with 5 and Wesely had 3.
