Carrollton snapped a 19-game losing streak against visiting Louisville with a 53-48 win over the Leopards Saturday.  The outcome forces a three-way tie for the NBC lead between Carrollton, Louisville, and West Branch who are all 9-2 in league play.

Hollyann Mullett led the Lady Leopards with 13 points, Hannah Lemmon dropped in 10, and both Clara Lemmon & Jordan Monnot each added 8.

Louisville hit 7 of 11 free throws in the first half to take a 17-16 lead into the break.   After a three-pointer by Carrollton’s Monica Starre, Mullett scored three consecutive baskets to extend Louisville’s advantage to 23-19.

But the Warriors answered back with a 10-0 run to take a 6-point lead with 1:35 left in the third quarter.  Then Louisville retaliated with 2 three-pointers from Chandler Rice and Hannah Beatty's Winter HoodiesLemmon in the final 30 seconds of the quarter to trim the Warrior lead to 31-29 heading into the fourth.  Picking up where they had left off, Clara Lemmon knocked home a three-pointer and Mullett made a pair of free throws to extend the Leopard advantage to 34-31.

The three-point fest continued as Starre and Hannah Lemmon exchanged long range shots.  Both players led their team by hitting 3 three-pointers each.  Starre finished with a game-high 20 points for Carrollton.

With 3:35 left in the game, Louisville’s Emily Nees charged to the hole to tie the game at 42 a piece.  Another three-pointer by Starre and a putback by Ali Poole gave the Warriors a 47-43 lead. Louisville answered with a Rice to Clara Lemmon basket to cut the deficit to two points, but the Warriors would finish by making 8 of 10 free throws in the final period to keep their lead for good.

Poole was a perfect 6 of 6 from the free throw line in the quarter and tallied 10 of her 13 points in the period as well.  Poole also provided a key steal in the final minute of the game that removed all hope of a Louisville comeback.

The loss is the Lady Leopards first against Carrollton since a 46-37 road loss on January 11, 2003.  Louisville still leads the series 34-17 overall and now holds a 15-10 record at Carrollton.  While a win Saturday would have provided a straight away path to another outright NBC Title, the Lady Leopards still control their fate for at least a share of a title.  All three of their remaining league opponents are in the bottom four of the NBC Standings: Marlington, Alliance, Canton South.  A clean sweep of these foes would give Louisville their third straight NBC Championship.

The Lady Leopards JV squad used a 14-5 fourth quarter run to close out the host Lady Warriors 48-39 Saturday afternoon.

Rachel Zeller scored 13 of her game-high 17 points in the second half to lead Louisville.  Sydney Bartolet also poured in 12 and Jessica Hamsher added 9.  Bartolet also hit home all 3 of the Leopards three-pointers.

Despite a few leads by the Warriors, the Leopards led after every quarter of play.  They took an early 12-8 advantage after one, held a slim 21-20 halftime lead, and were up 32-29 heading into the final period.

Carrollton was led by Aubrey Wilson’s 17 points, while both Mackenzie DeGarmo and Roz Pridemore each added 6.

With the victory, Louisville is now in the driver’s seat to win the NBC as they handed Carrollton their second straight league loss.  The Lady Leopards are now 14-3 overall and 9-1 in the NBC, while the Lady Warriors fall to 14-2 overall and 8-1 in league play.  The two teams did not face each other the first time due to Carrollton only having 11 available to play.  Every other JV team in the NBC has at least 2 losses.
