Lady Leopards Alone in 1st After Downing Dukes
Louisville 70, Marlington 55
The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team defeated the visiting Marlington Dukes 70-55 in a battle for the top spot in the NBC Saturday Afternoon at Louisville High School. With the win, Louisville improves to 6-2 overall and is alone in first with a conference record of 4-0.
Abby Beaver and Alexa Oberster each recorded a double double to lead the Lady Leopards. Both scored 14 points with Beaver dishing out 10 assists and Oberster grabbing 12 boards. Sarah Lairson led the team with 16 points and Danielle Walter also scored 14 points. Both Lairson and Walter had 3 steals each for Louisville.
The Leopards edged the Dukes in each of the first three quarters to take a 50-42 lead into the final period. Louisville won the first quarter 16-13, second quarter 20-16, and third quarter by the narrowest of margins 14-13. The Lady Leopards broke away in the fourth by outscoring Marlington 20-13.
Louisville held a 46% (26 of 56) to 41% (19 of 46) advantage shooting from the floor. They also out-rebounded the Dukes 35-26.

Marlington was led by Robin Campbell who dropped in a game-high 20 points to go along with 3 assists. Alivia Lepley also hit double figures with 10 points and Brianna Hoopes scored 8 to round out the Dukes top scorers. Leah Springer also finished with a team-high 9 rebounds. Marlington is now 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the NBC.
With the victory, the Lady Leopards have now won 6 straight over the Lady Dukes and have won the last 8 games in the series played at LHS. Louisville now leads the all-time series 65-17, which includes a 31-10 mark at home. The Leopards have now won their last 13 home games in league play.
UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will next travel to take on the Minerva Lions on Wednesday, December 28. JV will begin at 6:00 PM and Varsity will follow around 7:30 PM.
