The Louisville Leopards Boys Golf Team competed at the Tannenhauf Invitational Friday at Tannenhauf Golf Club in Alliance. Louisville shot 344 as a team to finish 11th out of 18 competing Division I schools and 15th out of 32 total schools in all divisions.
Root Sinks 1st Hole-In-One in Team History
Sophomore Zach Root made Leopard history by sinking a hole-in-one on hole #15 (par 3). The ace was the first known hole-in-one in the recorded history of the Louisville Boys Golf program. His coach described the shot on Facebook:
“Scratch watching one of my boys ace a par 3 off the coaching bucket list! Congrats Zach Root…#15 at Tannenhauf….beautiful shot, hopped past the hole and spun back in! I wouldn’t know…but I think putting a 1 on the scorecard helps!”
– Head Coach Mike McFerren
Mayle Posts 81 to Lead Leopards
Root would tie with four other Division I golfers for 29th shooting 11 over par 83. For the fourth straight tournament, fellow sophomore Jack Mayle would lead the Leopards by posting a 9 over par 81 for the invite to take 23rd individually in Division I.
Junior Sam Karcher and sophomore Cole Miller also tallied 90 each to round out Louisville’s scoring in taking 57th individually. Junior Caleb Harsh also shot 92 while coming in 65th against a field of 90 total Division I golfers.

Smith & Stephan Finish at Top to Lead Green
The Green Bulldogs ran away with the tournament after claiming the top two scores individually. Medalist Kyle Smith shot 2 under par 70 and individual runner-up Matt Stephan finished at par 72. The champion Bulldogs tallied a team total score of 301.
The St. Ignatius Wildcats placed second only a single stroke ahead of the Jackson Polar Bears 312-313. Still, the Federal League would claim 4 of the top 5 spots in the final totals. The Lake Blue Streaks also took fourth with 321 and the North Canton Hoover Vikings finished fifth with a team tally of 323.
Gilmour Academy Wins DII/DIII Tournament
The Gilmour Academy Lancers claimed the Division II and III combined tournament by registering a score of 319 as a team. On a fifth man tie-breaker, Columbiana beat out Independence to claim DII/DIII team runner-up after both teams shot 341. The Carrollton Warriors also shot 343 to take fourth as the only other DII/DIII team to finish with a lower score than Louisville.
McDonald’s Michael Porter finished as the DII/DIII medalist by shooting 1 over par 73. Mogadore’s Dillon Pendergast finished a single stroke behind shooting 2 over par 74 to claim individual runner-up.
