The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Basketball Team upended the visiting Canton South Wildcats 71-37 Tuesday Night at Louisville High School. With the victory, Louisville improves to 10-3 on the season.

Aljancic Hits Team Record 9 Three-Pointers

Lingenhoel Group - Arden and Lisa Lingenhoel - Cutler Real Estate AdJunior guard Will Aljancic broke the team record for three-pointers in a game with 9 and also finished with a game high 33 points to lead the Leopards. He made 4 three-pointers in both the second and third quarters before hitting his record-breaking ninth three-pointer from the right wing with 6:27 to go in the fourth.

Aljancic passed both teammate senior Tyler Boldon and 2018 alum Brandon Wahl who previously held the LHS mark with 8 three-pointers in a single contest. Wahl set the previous record during Louisville’s 69-46 win at Marlington on January 5, 2018. Boldon matched Wahl’s high mark just a week prior in the Leopards 71-65 road loss to Howland on January 11, 2022.

Aljancic’s 9 three-pointers at home also eclipses the previous record held by 2011 alum and current assistant coach Owen Gramoy who first set the previous home mark of 7 in a 56-54 loss to Northwest on January 21, 2011. Aljancic tied Gramoy’s record with 7 home three-pointers in 70-63 Louisville victory over Canton Central Catholic last season.  His 4 three-pointers in the third quarter is also a known record for that specific quarter.

Leopards Take Command with 13-0 2nd Quarter Run

Jenny Can Cleaning AdSophomore guard Hayden Nigro scored 7 of his 16 points in the opening stanza to help lead Louisville to a slim 12-10 lead after a back-and-forth first quarter. The Leopards would rip the game wide open with a 13-0 run early on in the second quarter and rolled to 32-14 lead via a 7-0 run later in the period. Louisville remained in the command at the half 34-19.

The Leopards put the Wildcats away by scoring the first 13 points of the second half as part of a 15-0 Louisville run. The Leopards would take a 52-28 lead by the end of the third and extend their advantage to as much as 71-35 late in the fourth before rolling to a 34 point victory.

Nine different Louisville players scored during the contest as the Leopards bench added 16 points to the team’s total. Junior forward Chase Mueller and freshman guard Beau Siegfried rounded out Louisville’s top scorers with 5 points each.

Noll Leads Canton South With Team High 12

Senior Brady Noll hit a pair of three-pointers and scored all of his team high 12 points in the first three quarters to lead Canton South. Senior guard Akil Martin also scored 8 and senior guard Cam Haut added 5 for CSHS.

Most Lopsided Louisville Win in Rivalry

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdThe Leopards have now defeated the Wildcats in each of their past 7 meetings dating back to 2016. The 7 game winning streak in the series is the longest for Louisville against Canton South all-time eclipsing two other stints when they defeated the Wildcats in 6 straight matchups from 1990-1993 and 2008-2011. Canton South still leads the all-time series 95-54 dating back to 1933.

The 34-point margin of victory is the largest for Louisville all-time in their rivalry against the Wildcats. The previous most lopsided Leopard victory came in a 73-43 win at Canton South on January 16, 2018. The Wildcats still own largest margin of victory in the series, a 46-point 108-62 drubbing over guest Louisville on January 30, 1976.
