Nigro Drops In 28 as Louisville Sails Past Lake 83-51 – Boys Basketball

The #7 ranked Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Basketball Team earned an 83-51 victory over the visiting Lake Blue Streaks Tuesday Night at Louisville High School. With their 13th straight victory, Louisville improves to 14-1 on the season.

Nigro Scores Game High 28 for Leopards

Senior guard Hayden Nigro scored 16 of his game high 28 points in the second half to lead the Leopards. He converted 12 field goals, all of which came inside the arch. Nigro also finished 4-for-7 from the free throw stripe.

Nigro reached double figures in the opening quarter with 10 points as Louisville took a 21-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. He was held to just a single field goal in the second quarter as the Leopards edged the Blue Streaks in the period 17-16 to take a 38-22 lead into halftime.

Nigro was back at it in the third quarter registering double digits again with 11 as Louisville pulled ahead 61-35 heading into the fourth. He would tack on 5 more points the rest of the way as the Leopards outscored the Blue Steaks 22-16 in the final stanza.


Louisville Hits 11 Three-Pointers

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdLouisville would hit 11 three-pointers during the contest, which included a trifecta of them before the midway mark of the first quarter. Junior guard Ashton Marshall splashed home a three-pointer from the right corner to break the ice. Then junior point guard Beau Siegfried continued the Leopards game of “Around the World” with a three-ball from the right wing.

Nigro drove to the hole after that and completed a traditional three-point play from the foul line. Then junior guard Tate Aljancic popped a three-pointer from the left corner to up the Louisville advantage to 12-0 with 4:05 to play in the first quarter.

Aljancic and Siegfried both finished with a game high 3 three-pointers on the night to account for all their points. Junior guard Avery Andrejcik also made a pair of three-pointers and scored all 8 of his points in the fourth quarter.

Junior forward Brayden Gross, Marshall, and junior forward Austin Wade accounted for the other 3 triples. Gross and Marshall ended the evening in double figures with 11 each.


Casenhiser Registers Team High 18 for Lake

Lingenhoel Group - Arden and Lisa Lingenhoel - Cutler Real Estate AdSenior point guard Chance Casenhiser hit a pair of three-pointers and scored all of his team high 18 points in the first three quarters to lead the Blue Streak. Junior shooting guard Josh Landes also made 2 three-pointers and scored all of his 10 points in the fourth quarter. Rounding out the top scorers for Lake were sophomore small forward Gavin Salzwimmer with 7 and senior center Josh Coffield with 6.

The Blue Streaks started off the season 0-9 before winning 3 straight. They now sit at 3-11 on the year following back-to-back road losses at Canton McKinley and Louisville.


Leopards Vs. Blue Streaks Basketball Series

The Leopards are 15-23 against the Blue Streaks all-time in records dating back to their first known meeting in 1980. Louisville is now 9-10 against Lake when playing at home in the series. 

The 32-point margin of victory is the Leopards’ largest over the Blue Streaks in series history. Louisville’s previous largest win over Lake was a 17-point 84-67 victory at home back on January 7, 1992. Tuesday’s win nearly doubled that margin.

The Blue Streaks are the first of 3 Federal League teams the Leopards will play this season. They also host Canton McKinley on February 2 and travel to North Canton Hoover on February 13.

UP NEXT: The Leopards will next travel to Lakewood to take on the St. Edward Eagles on Friday, January 26. JV will begin at 5:30 PM and Varsity will follow around 7:00 PM.
