A 32 yard fourth quarter touchdown run by Joe Murdock allowed Thornville Sheridan to defeat host Louisville 14-7 in the opening round of the playoffs on November 5, 1999.
The Generals rushed the ball 54 times for 256 yards and ate up time of possession all night long. Sheridan ran more offensive plays by a count of 66-37. Their 13 play, 89 yard second quarter drive took 6:02 off the clock before Jason Wilson scored from a yard out. After a failed kick, the Generals led 6-0.
However, the Leopards came out of the locker room firing. Quarterback Jon Herbert hit Adam Reinford for a 26 yard completion at the start of the second half. Two plays later the combination hooked up again for a 46 yard touchdown pass. Nathan DeGasperis’s extra point sailed through giving Louisville a 7-6 advantage with 10:03 left in the third.
Then Generals game-winning score came with 11:14 left in the fourth quarter. Murdock picked up 32 of his game-high 97 yards on the play and a two-point conversion pass allowed Sheridan to take a 14-7 lead.
Louisville would get the ball three more times, but punted twice and gave up the game-ending interception with 0:59 left. The Leopards turned the ball over twice in the game, while the Generals played perfect. Sheridan was 9 of 15 on third down, while Louisville was 0 for 6. The Leopards were also penalized 6 times for 46 yards and were out-gained by the Generals 343-179 overall.
