Louisville at Minerva 1999 Football Highlights
Minerva 27, Louisville 21
Minerva jumped out to a 27-0 advantage and withstood a furious Louisville rally to gain a 27-21 upset over the visiting Leopards on October 29, 1999.
Lions Quarterback Ryan Lippincott ran the ball 16 times for 185 yards and scored on runs of 54, 1, and 24 to spearhead the Minerva attack. Donald Detchon also scored on a 3 yard touchdown run for the Lions to build their 27-0 advantage with 6:29 left in the third quarter.
The next play was the only time the Leopards would touch the ball in the third quarter, but that touch was gold. Andy Shook took the ensuing kickoff back 80 yards for a touchdown to give Louisville some life.
The Leopards also scored twice in a span of 1:59 seconds to cut the Lions advantage to 27-21 with 8:26 left to play. Quarterback Jon Herbert scored on a 56 yard touchdown run and then hooked up with Adam Reinford for a 34 yard touchdown reception.
However, the comeback came up empty as Minerva shutout Louisville the rest of the way. The loss allowed West Branch to share the NBC crown with Louisville for 1999.
