Kring’s Late Goal Lifts Girls Soccer Past Marlington
Louisville 1, Marlington 0
The Louisville Lady Leopards Girls Soccer Team blanked the host Marlington Dukes 1-0 Wednesday Evening at the Marlington Soccer Stadium. With the win, Louisville improves to 3-4-1 and is now tied atop the NBC Standings with Minerva at 2-0-1.
After 68 minutes of storming the net, the dam finally broke. Devin Kring crossed a shot that dinged off the left post and into the net to give the Leopards a 1-0 advantage with 11:12 left to play. The goal was setup by Abigayle Baughman who cleared the ball through the defense from the opposite side of the midfield stripe seconds before.
On Monday, Louisville learned a hard lesson to play until the end against Lake. The Leopards gave up their lead to the Blue Streaks with only 2 seconds left. The game prepared them well for the final minutes against the Dukes. Louisville clamped down and held Marlington scoreless the rest of the way.
The score does not reflect the dominance of the Leopards in the game. Louisville out-shot Marlington 25-4 and led in corner kicks 6-0. The Leopards have now won 4 straight against the Dukes in earning shutouts in their last three meetings. Louisville trails the all-time series 4-8-1 with a 3-4 mark at Marlington.
UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will next host the West Branch Warriors on Wednesday, September 23 at 7:00 PM.
