Louisville Defeats Hillsdale 4-1, Falls to Perry 11-3 in Tri-Header – Softball

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Softball Team defeated the visiting Hillsdale Falcons 4-1 in the first game of a triple header Saturday at West Main Vet Clinic Field. With the win, Louisville improved to 5-3 on the season.
Ensley Throws Complete Game to Earn Victory
Louisville senior starting pitcher Cloie Ensley threw a complete game, surrendered just 1 run on 9 hits, and struck out 2 to earn the victory in the circle. She retired the side in the sixth, but Hillsdale managed to get runners aboard in each of the other six innings. Ensely and the Leopards defense worked out of all but one of them as the Falcons left 11 on base. Ensely is now 4-1 on the season with the win.
Benson Homers in 3rd Straight At-Bat
Freshman shortstop Matti Benson batted 2-for-3, homered, and scored a pair of runs to lead the Lady Leopards at the plate. Her solo homer to center field was her third in as many at-bats. Benson blasted two dingers in her only two plate appearances during Thursday’s game against Alliance that was suspended in third inning due to weather. The freshman lead-off batter has now hit a team-leading 4 home runs this season, all of which took place this past week.
Stillwagon Sacrifices Home Nolte Twice
Louisville senior first baseman Lauren Stillwagon went 1-for-1 with 2 RBIs. She drove in senior centerfielder Kaylee Nolte twice on a pair of sacrifice fly balls in the first and third innings.
The Lady Leopards tacked on another insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when freshman right fielder Kenzi Denzer singled home Benson from second. Benson singled with one out, stole second, and then came home via Denzer’s line drive single to right field.
Both teams recorded 9 hits for the game. Junior third baseman Jenna Collins also had a multi-hit game for Louisville while batting cleanup.
Dalton and Traylor Record Multi-Hit Games
Shortstop Belle Dalton finished 2-for-3 and scored Hillsdale’s only run in the top of the third inning. She doubled to start the inning and came home via another double by catcher Emma Fowler two batters later.
Designated hitter Olivia Traylor also had a multi-hit game for the Lady Falcons.
Leopards Vs. Falcons Softball Series
With the victory, Louisville has now defeated Hillsdale in each of the past four seasons. The Lady Leopards lead the overall series 4-1, which includes a 2-0 record in home games in the series.

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Softball Team fell to the visiting Perry Panthers 11-3 Saturday Afternoon in the third and final game of a triple header at West Main Vet Clinic Field. With the loss, Louisville falls to 5-4 on the year.
Freshman shortstop Matti Benson finished 3-for-4 at the top of the lineup and recorded 2 stolen bases to lead the Lady Leopards. Junior designated hitter Jenna Collins also finished 2-for-3 at the dish.
Leopards Pounce on Panthers Early
Benson singled to begin the inning, stole second base, and advanced to third via second baseman Shelby Mayle’s fly out to right field. Senior centerfielder Kaylee Nolte bunted down the third base line and Benson was safe on the throw to the plate tying the game at 1-1.
Collins singled two pitches later putting runners on the corners. She then stole second base to put herself into scoring position. Senior first baseman Lauren Stillwagon brought both runners home on a two-run line drive single to center field that put Louisville in front 3-1.
Perry Scores 10 Unanswered Runs
It was all Perry after that as they pounded out 12 hits and scored 10 unanswered. Senior centerfielder Maddie Johnston and freshman designated hitter Brooke Jannelli led the Lady Panthers with 3 hits each.
Johnston led the game off with a solo home run to left field to give Perry an early 1-0 lead. She would bat 3-for-5, score 2 runs, and also deliver a 2-run single in the fourth inning to finish with 3 RBis.
Jannelli hit a game-tying two-run homer to center field to knot the game at 3-3 in the top of the second inning. She would finish a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish and scored 3 of the Panthers runs.
Freshman shortstop Delaney Ellis and freshman third baseman Marlee Pireu drove in a pair of runs each for Perry. Senior starting pitcher Missy Holzopfel also finished with two hits and struck out 8 in the circle for PHS.
Leopards Vs. Panthers Softball Series
This is the Lady Leopards first lost to the Panthers in the regular season since 2015. Louisville had won their previous 4 regular season games against Perry and 1 of 3 tournament games.
Louisville trails the all-time series against Perry 12-26, which includes a 4-13 record in home games.
