Lady Leopards Notch 500th Win Against Hillsdale – Softball
Louisville 12, Hillsdale 1, 5 Innings
The Louisville Leopards Softball program earned its 500th all-time victory in a 12-1 five inning run-rule victory over the Hillsdale Falcons Saturday. The game was the third in a tri-header on the campus of Perry Pfeiffer Intermediate School. With their third straight victory, Louisville improves to 8-2 on the year.
Teagan Rice continued her hot streak at the dish by going 3-for-3 with 3 runs batted in and 3 runs scored. Rice is batting a sizzling .576 for the season and leads the team in hits and RBIs. Alex Fankhauser also went 2-for-4 with a pair of 2-run singles to finish with 7 RBIs for the day. Kaycee Ollis batted 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored as well.
In the circle, Shae Thomas pitched a complete game, surrendered just 1 unearned run on 2 hits, and struck out 4. The unearned run came courtesy of two Leopards fielding errors in the bottom of the fourth inning. Despite the run, Thomas was in line for her second no-hitter of the season with 1 out in the bottom of the fifth inning. However, the Falcons (7-4) managed to pound out a pair of singles in the next three at-bats to break up the no-no. Thomas improves to 3-1 on the year with the decision.
Louisville out-hit Hillsdale 11-2 for the game. Sydney McKeever set the tone from the start in doubling on a line drive to left field in the opening at-bat of the contest. She finished 2-for-3 and scored 3 times for the Lady Leopards. Sarah Cantley and Kaylee Nolte also recorded RBI singles for the Leopards.
Louisville has now defeated Hillsdale in each of the past three seasons. The Lady Leopards are 3-1 against the Falcons all-time and 1-1 in games played at a neutral location in the series.
The victory was the 500th in the history of the Lady Leopards Softball program dating back to to 1985. Louisville now holds a record of 500-361 (.581) all-time. LHS is 100-23 (.813) since their 400th victory against the Lake Blue Streaks in 2014.
UP NEXT: The Louisville Leopards Softball Team will next travel to face the Massillon Tigers on Monday, April 15 at 5:00 PM.
