Louisville Falls At Austintown Fitch 10-0 – Softball
Austintown Fitch 10, Louisville 0, 5 Innings
The Louisville Leopards Varsity Softball Team was shutout by the host Austintown Fitch Falcons 10-0 in five innings Tuesday Evening. With the loss, Louisville drops to 4-3 on the year.
Collins and Brendle Record Leopards Only Hits
Junior third baseman Jenna Collins led off the top of the fourth with a double to right field and advanced to third when senior first baseman Lauren Stillwagon flied out to right field. However, a 3-2 double play ended the inning as first baseman Maddy Taylor tapped first and threw home to catcher McKenna Hogan who tagged out Collins at the plate to end the Leopards best scoring threat of the game.
Junior catcher Brooke Brendle recorded the only other hit for Louisville in the second inning, but was left stranded at first.
Mitchell and Senediak Lead the Falcons
The Falcons out-hit the Leopards 14-2 for the game en rout to their run-rule victory. Second baseman Caitlin Mitchell led Austintown Fitch by going 3-for-4 at the dish with an RBI double, an RBI triple, and 3 runs scored. Third baseman Sophia Senediak also batted 2-for-3 with an RBI single in the second inning and a 2-run homer in the fifth inning.
Altogether seven different Falcon batters recorded base hits and five different Fitch players scored. Hogan, Ray, and Taylor all had multi-hit games for Austintown. Ray also delivered a walk-off line drive single to right field with the bases loaded scoring the clinching run in Mitchell to end the game with 1 out in the bottom of the fifth.
Schubert Earns Victory In the Circle for Fitch
In the circle, Kayla Schubert pitched five shutout innings giving up just 2 hits and striking out 2 to earn the win for the Falcons.
This is Louisville’s first lost to Austintown Fitch since a 3-2 defeat on the road on April 18, 2016. The Lady Leopards still lead the all-time series 3-2 overall, but are 1-2 when playing on the road against the Falcons.
This is the first time Louisville has been shutout since a 1-0 loss to Keystone on April 6, 2019. This is also the first time the Lady Leopards have been run-ruled and shutout since the 2009 season finale at Marlington, also a 10-0 five inning loss.
