The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball team fell to the visiting Massillon Tigers 50-40 Tuesday Beatty's Grey Striped Long SleeveEvening at Louisville High School. With the loss, Louisville falls to an even 2-2 on the season.

Sarah Lairson poured in a game-high 19 points and hit 3 three-pointers to lead the Lady Leopards. Abby Beaver also broke double digits with 9 of her 11 points coming in the second half. Other scorers included Alexis Beaver with 6 and Alexa Oberster with 4.

Louisville led 11-10 after the first quarter, but Massillon rallied to take a commanding 23-16 lead by halftime. The Tigers would build a double digit lead twice and led by as much as 38-26 with under six minutes to play in the game.

The Lady Leopards answered with a stunning 13-0 run over the next 2:18 to take their first lead of the second half. Abby Beaver got the run started with a lay-in while drawing a foul. The Louisville defense put the clamps down forcing several turnovers on the next few Massillon possessions.

A little later, a pump fake by Oberster was enough to free her of the jumping Tiger defender for an easy layup to make it 38-35. Massillon came up empty on the other end and Alexis Beaver came down with a big rebound. She passed it to her sister Abby Beaver who dribbled across the timeline, stopped around the three-point line to freeze the defense, and then took it to the hole to cut the deficit to 1.

On the ensuing Tigers possession, Lairson deflected the opposition’s pass into the hands of Abby Beaver. She dribbled the ball into the key and then kicked it back out to Lairson in the left corner who buried a jumper. The field goal gave the Leopards a 39-38 lead with 3:22 left to play.

Louisville would not score against from the field as Massillon finished the game on a 12-1 run to win by double digits. Kaylee Pierce led the Tigers with a team-high 17 points in hitting 3 second half three-pointers. Tami Ridley also scored 16 and Kailani Broyles finished with 11.

With the loss, Louisville has now dropped 5 of their last 6 meetings against Massillon. The Leopards still lead the all-time series 13-9, which includes a 6-3 mark over the Tigers at home. Louisville is now 1-2 in non-conference play this season.

UP NEXT: The Leopards will next travel to Canfield to take on the Cardinals on Wednesday, December 7. JV starts at 5:30 PM and Varsity follows around 7:00 PM.
