Benson and Nolte Deliver 3 Hits Each
Freshman shortstop Matti Benson and senior centerfielder Kaylee Nolte both went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Lady Leopards. Nolte singled home junior catcher Kat Frase in the third inning and also recorded an RBI single scoring Benson for the final run of the game in the top of the sixth. LHS only surrendered the lead once in trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth, but Nolte’s 2-run double scoring junior catcher Brooke Brendle and Benson helped the Leopards snatch the lead right back at 5-4.
Benson would score three runs in the game and record 2 of Louisville’s 5 extra-base hits. Benson doubled to lead-off the game and was later driven home by senior first baseman Lauren Stillwagon to give the Leopards the early 1-0 advantage. Benson also hit a 2-out RBI triple in the top of the sixth scoring freshman right fielder Brooke Haren to give Louisville an insurance run in putting them up 8-6.
Collins and Stillwagon Homer Vs. Massillon Again
The Leopards hit a pair of home runs in the game to up their season total to 13 on the year. Junior designated hitter Jenna Collins led off the fourth inning with a solo shot to left field to give Louisville a 3-0 cushion. The home run was her second of the season. Collins other homer also came against Massillon at home back on March 29.
Stillwagon also hit her second home run of the season against Tiger pitching in the top of the fifth inning. One at-bat after Nolte delivered a 2-run double, Stillwagon cracked a 2-run bomb to center field to put the Leopards in front 7-4. This capped off a 4-run fifth inning for Louisville nullifying Massillon’s 4-run fourth inning in the frame before. Stillwagon has now gone yard 4 times this season and leads the team with 24 RBIs for the year.
