The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team succumbed to a furious second half rally by the host Boardman Spartans 55-45 Saturday Afternoon at Boardman High School. With the loss, Louisville drops to 3-1 on the young season.

Haren Pours in 17 for Lady Leopards

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdSenior Brooke Haren scored 9 of her team high 17 points in the opening quarter to lead the Lady Leopards. Louisville started strong again in taking a 20-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Spartans trimmed the Leopard advantage to 27-21 by halftime and would knot the game up at 34-34 with 2:47 remaining in the third quarter. After a basket in the key by Haren, Boardman would rip off a 12-0 run to take a double digit 46-36 advantage with under seven minutes to play in the game.


Barwick Inspires 9-0 4th Quarter Run

Lingenhoel Group - Arden and Lisa Lingenhoel - Cutler Real Estate AdLouisville answered back with a 9-0 run of their own to cut the Spartan advantage to a single point. Haren got things started with a bucket in the lane while she was fouled. The charity shot didn’t drop leaving the Lady Leopards deficit 46-38.

Junior Courtney Barwick would score Louisville’s final 7 points. She canned a three-pointer and then scored inside to trim the Boardman lead to 46-43. Sophomore Maggie Baker then forced a steal on the defensive end and passed to Barwick who laid it off the glass to get the Lady Leopards to within 46-45 with 2:58 left in the contest.

Boardman called a timeout to slow down Louisville’s momentum and it worked. The Leopards would be shutout the rest of the way as the Spartans closed the game on a 9-0 run of their own to earn the double digit 55-45 win.

Barwick would finish in double figures with 12. Other scorers for Louisville included sophomore Taylor McCully with 8, junior Chay Cline with 6, and senior Lexi Wasara with 2.


Riccitelli Scores Game High 25 for Spartans

Equitable Advisors - Bryce MathieSenior Mackenzie Riccitelli 20 of her game high 25 points in the second half to lead Boardman’s rally. Riccitelli cashed in on 3 of her 4 three-pointers in the second half and buried 9 of 10 free throw attempts that helped seal the game late for the Lady Spartans.

Senior Samantha Duble also made 3 of Boardman’s 9 three-pointers in the game and finished in double figures with 15. Other scorers for the Spartans included senior M.C. Werth with 6, junior Ava Freeborough with 5, and junior Sarah Bero with 4.


Boardman’s 1st Win Over Louisville Since 2009

The win was Boardman’s first over Louisville since 2009 when they won their sectional tournament matchup 65-35. The Lady Leopards had taken the last 4 meetings in the series overall including matchups in each of the past two seasons as well as tournament games in 2011 and 2021.

The Lady Leopards still lead the all-time series 4-1, but the series is now even at 1-1 when playing at Boardman. Louisville also won at Boardman 59-47 back in 2021.
