The Louisville Leopards Varsity Softball Team fell to the visiting No. 9-ranked Archbishop Hoban Knights 3-2 Wednesday evening at West Main Vet Clinic Field. With the loss, Louisville drops to 6-7 at the midway point of the regular season.

Gionino's Pizzeria Oakwood - Mobile AdWednesday’s game against Archbishop Hoban Varsity Knights was a heartbreaker for Louisville Varsity Leopards, as they lost the lead late in a 3-2 defeat. The game was tied at two in the top of the seventh when an error scored one run.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Archbishop Hoban Varsity Knights pitchers struck out seven, while Louisville Varsity Leopards sat down 11.

Archbishop Hoban Varsity Knights were the first to get on the board in the fourth when Katelynn Miller induced Alivia Havanas to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.

Louisville Varsity Leopards took the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Leah Claugus homered to right field, scoring two runs, to give Louisville Varsity Leopards the edge, 2-1.

Devin Stohovitch homered to left field, which helped Archbishop Hoban Varsity Knights tie the game at two in the top of the sixth.

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdMiller stepped in the circle first for Louisville Varsity Leopards. The starting pitcher gave up two hits and one run over five innings, striking out seven and walking one. Taylor Schneider took the loss for Louisville Varsity Leopards. The hurler went two innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit, striking out four and walking none. Gracelyn Schultz began the game for Archbishop Hoban Varsity Knights. The hurler allowed five hits and two runs over four and one-third innings, striking out one and walking none.

West Main Vet Clinic AdKaitlin Twinem, Miller, Bailee Griffith, Anna Sirohman, and Claugus each collected one hit for Louisville Varsity Leopards. Claugus led Louisville Varsity Leopards with two runs batted in. The center fielder went 1-for-3 on the day.

Stohovitch went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Archbishop Hoban Varsity Knights in hits. Havanas, Madison Shenigo, and Stohovitch each drove in one run for Archbishop Hoban Varsity Knights.

Louisville Varsity Leopards welcome Boardman Varsity Spartans on Thursday for their next game.

Louisville Junior Varsity Leopards couldn’t keep up with Archbishop Hoban and fell 11-2 on Wednesday.

Archbishop Hoban got on the board in the second inning after Ella Jansen singled, scoring two runs.

Archbishop Hoban extended their early lead with two runs in the top of the third thanks to RBI singles by Delaney Phillips and Alice Crawford.

Emily Edwards earned the win for Archbishop Hoban. The pitcher allowed two hits and two runs (zero earned) over six innings, striking out 14 and walking two. Lyla Kandel took the loss for Louisville Junior Varsity Leopards. The hurler went two innings, surrendering three runs on four hits, striking out none and walking one. Kylin Thorn stepped in the circle first for Louisville Junior Varsity Leopards. The starting pitcher surrendered 12 hits and eight runs (six earned) over four innings, striking out two and walking one.

Payton Hamilton and Reagan Samblanet were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected one hit for Louisville Junior Varsity Leopards while hitting back-to-back. Louisville Junior Varsity Leopards turned one double play in the game.

Archbishop Hoban amassed 16 hits in the game. Crawford, the number eight hitter for Archbishop Hoban, led the way with four runs batted in. The infielder went 3-for-4 on the day. Archbishop Hoban’s Phillips, the number seven hitter, led Archbishop Hoban with four hits in four at bats. Savannah Steps, Jansen, and Edwards each collected multiple hits for Archbishop Hoban.
