Louisville Falls to No. 6-Ranked Boardman 3-2 in Regional Final Rematch – Softball

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Softball Team fell to the visiting Division III No. 6-ranked Boardman Spartans 3-2 Thursday evening at West Main Vet Clinic Field in a rematch of last year’s regional final game. Louisville has now lost three straight games by a single run against stiff competition and now sits at 6-8 on the season.

Both teams were strong in the circle on Thursday, but Boardman Varsity Spartans was just a little bit stronger at the plate in their 3-2 victory over Louisville Varsity Leopards. Shae O’Neill started the game for Louisville Varsity Leopards and recorded 16 outs.
Louisville Varsity Leopards lost despite out-hitting Boardman Varsity Spartans five to three. Anna Sirohman led Louisville Varsity Leopards with two hits.
Louisville Varsity Leopards were the first to get on the board in the first when Leah Claugus hit a solo home run to center field.
Kate Thames homered to left field, which helped Boardman Varsity Spartans tie the game at one in the top of the third.
A home run to center field by Addie Rudge gave Boardman Varsity Spartans the lead, 3-1, in the top of the sixth.
O’Neill led things off in the circle for Louisville Varsity Leopards. The hurler surrendered three hits and three runs (two earned) over five and one-third innings, striking out seven and walking none. Gabi Sferra started the game for Boardman Varsity Spartans. The righty gave up five hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out 12 and walking one.
O’Neill and Claugus each drove in one run for Louisville Varsity Leopards.
Rudge provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Boardman Varsity Spartans with two runs batted in. The catcher went 1-for-3 on the day. Rudge, Autumn Miller, and Thames each collected one hit for Boardman Varsity Spartans. Boardman Varsity Spartans turned one double play in the game.
Louisville Varsity Leopards welcome Triway Varsity Titans on Saturday for their next game.
