DI Austintown District Girls Soccer Tournament 2017
DI Austintown District Girls Soccer Preview
The Louisville Leopards Girls Soccer Team drew the #9 Seed out the 13 teams in the DI Austintown District Girls Soccer Tournament draw last Sunday. Louisville will travel to play at the #8 Seed Boardman Spartans on Monday, October 16 at 7:00 PM in the DI Austintown Sectional Semifinals.
The Boardman Spartans Girls Soccer Team is 6-7-2 on the season and shares 3 common opponents with the Leopards in Austintown Fitch, Canfield, and Lake. Boardman went 0-4-1 against those three schools, while Louisville finished 1-1-1 against the same teams.
The All-American Conference plays league foes twice during the regular season. The Spartans were swept by Canfield 1-0 on the road and 5-0 at home. The Leopards shutout the Cardinals 1-0 at home on October 2. Boardman was blanked at home by Austintown Fitch 2-0 and tied the Falcons 3-3 on the road. Louisville fell to Fitch 3-1 at Louisville Leopards Stadium on September 9. The Leopards tied Lake 2-2 in the season opener back on August 23. The Spartans fell at home to the Blue Streaks 4-0 on September 9 in comparison.
Louisville and Boardman also met in the preseason at the Wooster Classic way back on August 5. Their 35-minute session together resulted in a 1-0 Spartan victory. The two teams last met during the season on August 24, 2013 at Boardman with the Leopards doubling up the Spartans 2-1. Louisville is 1-2 against Boardman all-time. Boardman shutout LHS 3-0 in their only ever tournament matchup in the DI Youngstown Sectional Final on October 24, 2006.
The winner of Monday’s Sectional Semifinal would earn a date with the top seeded North Canton Hoover Vikings in the DI Austintown Sectional Finals on Thursday, October 19 at 7:00 PM. The Lady Vikings finished the 2016 season 12-2-2, which included a 5-1 record in the Federal League. Hoover remained undefeated going into the final week of the season before falling on the road at Hathaway Brown 2-1 and at Jackson 1-0. Louisville fell at North Canton back on August 28 by the count of 6-1.
The Leopards are 2-9-1 against the Vikings all-time, which includes a 2-6 record in games played at North Canton. However, the two rivals are an even 1-1 in tournament games with both being played at Hoover. The Leopards were blanked by the Vikings 7-0 in the DI Youngstown Sectional Semifinals back in their inaugural season of 2003. But Louisville earned a thrilling 2-1 double overtime victory at North Canton to win their only even Sectional Championship in 2012.
Louisville is 7-13 all-time in tournament play.
