The #9 seed Louisville Leopards Boys Soccer Team shutout the visiting #26 seed Canton South Wildcats 8-0 in their DII Northeast 2 Sectional Semifinal matchup Tuesday Evening at Louisville Leopards Stadium. With the victory, Louisville improves to 11-4-2 and advances to face the #7 seed Marlington Dukes on the road in the DII Northeast 2 Sectional Finals on Saturday, October 24 at 4:00 PM.

Mason Foley recorded a hat trick to lead the Leopards on offense. He scored the first two goals of the second half as well as the second goal of the game en rout to the hat trick. Foley is now second on the team with 8 goals for the season.

Senior Riley Adams scored his team leading 26th goal of the season within the first minute of the game. Austin Smith, Brady Adams, and Cooper Gilbert would also add goals to close out the first half. Max Pugh scored the only other Leopards goal late in the second half.

Six of Louisville’s 8 goals were assisted. Kael Mickley notched a pair of assists and also had an early shot on goal that Riley Adams’ rebounded and put-back for the opening score. Brady Adams, Drew Dillen, Tanis Murray, and Blake Varner all recorded assists for the Leopards.

Samantha's Grill AdGoalkeepers Joe Reynolds and Noah Emmons combined for Louisville’s 7th shutout of the season. This ties the 2012 and 2016 teams for the most shutouts in a single season. Reynolds started each one of those shutouts which matches Austin Terra (2012) and Jarrett Zwick (2016) for the individual single season shutout record. 

With the victory, the Leopards have now defeated the Wildcats in 17 straight matches dating back to 2004. Louisville now leads the all-time series 17-3-1 over Canton South which includes a 10-1-1 record in the series when playing at home. The Leopards are now 3-0 against the Wildcats in the tournament all-time as they also defeated them in home sectional semifinals in 2005 and 2019.

Lingenhoel Group - Arden and Lisa Lingenhoel - Cutler Real Estate AdThe Leopards have now won their opening tournament game in each of the past three seasons since Head Coach Jared Komo took over the program in 2018. This is only the second time this has happened in team history with four straight opening tournament game victories from 2009-2012. Louisville is now 15-20 in the postseason all-time, but holds a 12-7 record in home tournament matches.

The Leopards will look to reverse their fortunes on the road in the tournament on Saturday when they travel to face the #7 Seed Marlington Dukes. Marlington defeated #24 seed Niles McKinley 10-2 in their DII Northeast 2 sectional semifinals on Tuesday as well.
