Siegfried Erupts in 1st, Scores Game High 21
Senior point guard Beau Siegfried scorched the nets making a team record 5 three-pointers in the first quarter as the Leopards took command early and never looked back. Siegfried would finish with a game high 21 points and dish out a team best 6 assists to lead the Louisville offense. He also recorded a game high 5 steals and and added a block on defense.
The Leopards won the tip, but failed to score on their opening possession. Avery Andrejcik and Brayden Gross trapped Walsh Jesuit in the corner after the rebound and Tate Aljancic intercepted a desperate Warrior pass in the back court. Aljancic fired to Siegfried at the top of the key who flushed it home to put Louisville in front 3-0.
Siegfried would hit again from the same spot a few minutes later to give the Leopards an 8-0 cushion. After a pair of missed free throws on a later possession, Gross hauled in the rebound and kicked over the Siegfried on the left wing. Siegfried sidestepped a defender and buried another shot from deep to put Louisville ahead 11-0 just 2:32 into the game. That prompted Walsh Jesuit Head Coach Sean Flannery to burn a timeout as the fired up Leopards celebrated all the way back to the bench.
Siegfried Ties Record for Most 3-Pointers in a Quarter
Siegfried ended up nailing 5 three-pointers in the first 5:33 of game action as Louisville rolled to a 33-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. The 5 three-pointers tied the team record for most threes in a quarter. Brandon Wahl also hit 5 three-pointers in the opening quarter of the Leopards 69-46 win at Marlington in 2018. Tyler Boldon more recently registered 5 three-pointers in the fourth quarter of Louisville’s 71-65 loss at Howland in 2022.
Siegfried would not hit again from beyond the arc the rest of the night. However, his 5 three-pointers also ties the LHS first half record for three-point makes.
