Leopards Exorcise Blue Devils 69-52 in Season Opener – Boys Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Basketball Team defeated the visiting Tallmadge Blue Devils 69-52 in their season opener Friday Night at Louisville High School.

Siegfried Scores Game High 22 for Leopards

Romeo's Pizza Louisville, Ohio AdSenior point guard Beau Siegfried scored 13 of his game high 22 points in the second half to lead the Leopards. Siegfried hit 5 of 7 shots from the line as Louisville made 9 of 14 free throws on the night.

Tallmadge led 3-0 early when junior guard Robbie Reid III made a three-pointer at the top of the key. Louisville answered back with a 14-0 run and eventually held a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Leopards limited the Blue Devils to only a pair of Kaden Davis field goals in the second quarter and took a 26-12 lead into the half. Louisville blew the game open in the third quarter by outscoring Tallmadge 24-13 to double up the Blue Devils 50-25 in the total count heading into the final stanza.


Andrecjik and Gross Finish in Double Figures

Senior guard Avery Andrecjik hit a pair of three-pointers and scored 10 of his 14 points in that explosive Leopard third quarter. He would finish with 3 of Louisville’s 6 makes from beyond the arc for the night. 

Senior forward Brayden Gross dominated the boards all night long and also delivered a statement block early on in the opening quarter. He would finish with 7 of his 12 points in the first half.

Rounding out the Louisville scoring: Tate Aljancic scored 7, Ashton Marshall and Austin Wade added 6 each, and Devin Bailey got on the board in his Leopard debut with 2 points.

Davis Scores Team High 13 for Blue Devils

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdDavis hit a pair of three-pointers and finished with a team high 13 points to lead Tallmadge. Other top scorers for the Blue Devils included junior guard Caleb Kendrick with 9 and Reid III with 8. Both players matched Davis with a 2 three-pointers each.

Tallmadge refused to go quietly in hitting 4 of their 7 three-pointers in the final period. Nine different Blue Devils scored in the fourth quarter as Tallmadge outscored Louisville 27-19 in the final stanza.


Louisville Wins 4th Straight Against Tallmadge

The Leopards have now defeated the Blue Devils in four consecutive meetings since 2019, including the last two at home. Louisville leads the all-time series 5-3 overall, which includes a 2-2 record in games played at Louisville High School in the series.

JV: Louisville 37, Tallmadge 36

Brandon Sanders scored the go-ahead basket underneath with 28 seconds remaining to put the Leopards JV in front 37-36. Sanders then deflected a pass on the other end leading to a mad scramble and pile up in the lane. Cohen Rogers and Sanders helped force a jump ball in the pursuit giving Louisville the ball back with 6.9 seconds left.

The ensuing pass deep down court was deflected and the Leopards traveled when trying to secure the ball with 3.1 seconds remaining. Tallmadge threw the ball in from their own baseline down court. However, freshman guard Drake Wilson fresh off football season leaped into the air and secured the interception with two hands to seal the game.

Freshman guard Cody Zahler finished with a game high 7 points to lead Louisville. Sophomore forward Colton Dougherty added 6 points and Rogers hit a pair of three-pointers to also finish with 6.

The Blue Devils were led by Anthony Bontempto who scored all 7 of his points in the opening quarter. Luke Strate also dropped in 6 for Tallmadge.

Freshman: Louisville 64, Tallmadge 24

Drake Wilson hit 3 three-pointers and scored 15 of his game high 19 points in the opening quarter to lead the Leopard Freshman. Louisville took a 21-4 lead at the end of one and rolled to a 45-9 halftime advantage. All of Wilson’s points came in the first half.

The Blue Devils outscored the Leopards 14-5 in the third quarter, but Louisville responded by shutting out Tallmadge from the field in the fourth quarter in outscoring them 14-1. The Leopard Freshman prevailed with a convincing 64-24 win to begin their high school basketball careers.

Chase Wilson also hit double figures with 11 and Cody Zahler added 9 to round out Louisville’s top scorers. 

Chase Clester scored a team high 9 and Julian Grzybowski tacked on 5 to lead the Blue Devils.
