Gross Outscores Dragons with Game High 25
Brayden Gross scored 18 of his game high 25 points in the first half to lead the Leopards who built a 66-6 lead at halftime. He pulled down a game high 13 rebounds to finish with a double-double. Gross also recorded 3 steals, 2 blocks, and 2 assists for LHS.
The clock ran the entire second half courtesy of the 35-point mercy rule, but Gross tacked on 5 more points in the third quarter. That upped his total to 23 points, four more than the Dragons would amass for the entire game.
Louisville led 74-10 at the end of the third and outscored Akron East 14-9 in the final stanza to roll to an 88-19 road victory. The 69-point margin is the Leopards’ largest victory on the road all-time.
Loy and Siegfried Hit Double Figures in Opening Half
Kolton Loy and Beau Siegfried joined Gross in hitting double figures in the first half. Loy scored all 10 of his points in the first half and also finished with 5 rebounds and 2 steals.
Siegfried registered 11 of his 14 points before halftime and would finish hitting 3 of Louisville’s 7 three-pointers on the evening. He also dished out a team best 8 assists, tallied 5 deflections, and recorded 2 steals.
Louisville Storms Out to 31-0 Advantage
Louisville rolled to its best start to game in team history. Avery Andrejcik’s dunk on a drive through the middle of the lane put the Leopards ahead 31-0 with under two and half minutes to play in the opening quarter. Andrejcik was everywhere finishing with 8 points, 7 rebounds, 4 deflections, and a block.
Rober finally got the Dragons on the board with a basket before Louisville increased its advantage to 35-2 at the end of the first quarter. The 35 opening quarter points and 33-point first quarter margin is the largest in the regular season and anytime on the road in team history. The Leopards led Akron North 45-9 at the end of the first quarter in their home sectional final matchup last season, which remains the high mark for both first quarter records.
10 Different Leopards Score in Victory
Ten different Louisville players established themselves in the scorebook Saturday night. Tate Aljancic scored 9 points to go along with 4 assists and 4 rebounds. Devin Bailey added 7 points to go along with 4 deflections on defense. Ashton Marshall scored 6 points, passed out 6 assists, and added 3 steals. Austin Wade scored 5 points in pulled in 6 rebounds.

Rober led Akron East with 6 and Young tacked on 5.
Least Amount of Points Allowed in 60 Seasons for LHS
The 19 points surrendered is the least a Louisville boys varsity team has allowed in nearly 60 years. The Leopards last held a team under 20 points on January 23, 1965 when Louisville whipped the visiting Leetonia Bears 62-15 at the old Louisville Elementary gym.
That Leetonia drubbing is the only other time the “Leopards” have held an opponent under 20. You have to dig back into the first season after World War II ended for the next such instance. The Louisville Blue Raiders won at Canton Central Catholic 20-18 on February 22, 1946. Thus, its been 78 seasons since LHS has held an opponent to 19 points or less on the road.
We have identified over 90 occurrences where Louisville held opponents under 20 points from incomplete records from 1922-1944. Most notably is the Blue Raiders 44-2 victory at North Canton on February 2, 1934. The two points allowed is the least LHS has given up all-time. There are multiple other instances for Blue Raider teams holding opponents to single digits, but all of those other instances came in an era where stalling was common practice.
“In 1930 and 1933 there were two rules put into place to prevent stalling. The first was that you could not stand in the backcourt and hold the ball for more than 5 seconds. After 5 seconds you had to start dribbling or pass the ball. The other rule forced the team to bring the ball across half-court within 10 seconds of gaining possession. This was to keep teams from stalling.”

The 2 points allowed in the first quarter is the least given up by an LHS team on the road in a quarter in recent history. Louisville did hold Akron North to a single point in the opening quarter (17-1) during their 68-51 win at home on December 10, 2013.
The 6 points allowed at halftime and 10 points given up through three quarters are modern-day Leopard basketball records. The 60-point halftime margin, 66-6, is also a team record.
1st Matchup with Akron East Since 1938
Speaking of ancient history, this is the first time Louisville boys basketball has played Akron East on the hardwood since 1938. The Akron East Orientals held the Louisville Blue Raiders to 19 points in a 33-19 Class “A” Akron Sectional Tournament win at Goodyear Hall Court on March 2, 1938. Eighty-seven seasons later the Leopards avenged that loss while holding the Dragons to the same 19 point total.
Akron East leads the known series 2-1 overall. Akron East also defeated Louisville 32-13 in the 1937 Class “A” tournament held in Akron.
UP NEXT: The Leopards will next travel to take on the CVCA Royals on Tuesday, December 17. Freshman will begin at 4:30 PM, JV following around 6:30 PM, and Varsity beginning around 7:00 PM.
