The Louisville Leopards Varsity Football Team shutout the visiting Minerva Lions 53-0 Friday Night at Beatty's Sports Louisville Leopards Football 2016 Grey Schedule ShirtLouisville Leopards Stadium. With the victory, Louisville improves to 3-2 overall and is now 2-0 in NBC play.

The Leopards scored on all six of their first half possessions and twice on defense in taking a 40-0 halftime lead. Quarterback Brody Hahn finished the opening half by throwing for 106 yards & 2 touchdowns and was also the game’s leading rusher with 49 yards & a touchdown on the ground.

The Louisville Defense was instrumental in forcing 5 takeaways and creating points of their own. Drew JennCanAdDoerschuk and Cade Stertzbach stormed into the Minerva backfield to tally a safety. Later, Cam Lingle intercepted a Lions pass and returned it 52 yards to the house.

Doerschuk also intercepted a pass to setup another short field, Jared Mathie recovered a second half fumble to halt Minerva’s deepest scoring threat, and Corey White recorded an interception & recovered a fumble. White has now taken the ball away from opponents 4 times in the past two games. Constant pressure led by Linebacker Justin Vanover helped produce many of these takeaways.

Wide Receiver Tyler Adams caught only 2 passes for 51 yards, but it was enough to rewrite the Order Leopard Nation Highlight VideoLeopards Record Book. Adams got the Leopards on the board first when he caught a 43 yard touchdown pass from Brody Hahh. The touchdown grab tied him with Brandon Mathie (2007-2008) for the most career catches in school history. The touchdown reception was the 25th of his career, tying him with Justin Boudler (2000-2002) atop the all-time Louisville list. Adams also made an 8 yard reception just before halftime to surpass Mathie’s reception mark.

Adams record-breaking catch helped continue a drive that setup more Leopards Football history

Placekicker Hannah Baughman banged home a 28 yard field goal from the left hash making her the first female player to accomplish such a feat in Leopards history. Baughman would finish 6 of 6 on extra point attempts as well.

The Leopards out-gained the Lions 314-192 in total yards, which included a 208-34 advantage on the ground. Starting Runningback Gavin VanZant finished with 38 yards and a score, backup Quarterback Trent Degenhard rushed for 41 yards and scored the final Louisville touchdown, and Dylan Walczak finished with 39 yards on 7 carries.

Logan Thomas also had a 29 yard touchdown reception to put the Leopards ahead 23-0 with 3 seconds left in the first quarter. Fellow Receiver Max Hartline didn’t score through the air, but more than made up for it by returning the opening second half kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown. That made it 47-0 and a continuous clock was implemented throughout.
