Lady Leopards Earn 1st Win Over Wooster Since 1989 – Girls Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team defeated the visiting Wooster Generals 67-54 Thursday Evening at Louisville High School. The Lady Leopards have now won 3 of their last 4 and improve to 9-3 with the victory.

Barwick Scores Team High 20 to Lead Leopards
Junior Courtney Barwick scored 11 of her team high 20 points in the second half to lead Louisville. She scored on a buzzer beater at the end of the second quarter to put the Lady Leopards ahead 33-26 at halftime.
Barwick and senior Brooke Haren set the tone early out of the locker room with back-to-back steals and scores to start the third quarter. A few minutes later, Barwick converted a shot while being fouled and hit from the line to complete the traditional three-point play. That kickstarted a 7-0 Louisville run that ended with another Barwick basket. Junior Chay Cline intercepted a pass, fed to sophomore Taylor McCully who dished to Barwick under the hoop to give the Lady Leopards their largest lead of the contest at 48-30 with 5:14 remaining in the third quarter.
Barwick would finish with 9 points in the third quarter as Louisville would hang on to a double digit advantaged heading into the final stanza. The Lady Leopards would outscored the Lady Generals 15-12 in the fourth quarter to take home the 67-54 victory.
Haren Drops in 19 for Louisville
Haren scored 14 of her 19 points in the second quarter to help Louisville take control of the contest. She was held to just a single point in the opening period as LHS trailed Wooster 13-7 at the end of the first. Haren then caught fire in the second quarter as the Lady Leopards doubled up the Lady Generals 26-13 and never looked back.
McCully also hit 3 three-pointers and finished in double figures with 13. Other scorers for Louisville included Cline with 6, sophomores Sammi Beatty and Mabel Kiko with 3 points each, sophomore Violet Lab with 2 points, and senior Lexi Wasara with 1 point.
Pettorini Pours in Game High 23 for Wooster
Senior Tori Pettorini cashed in on 6 of her team’s 7 three-pointers and led the Generals with a game high 23 points. She made 5 three-pointers in the opening half and had 18 points at the break. The Lady Leopards limited Pettorini to just two field goals in the second half.
Senior power forward Josie Wright would score 10 of her 14 points in the second half for Wooster. Senior center Grace Kostohryz also finished with all 8 of her points in the second half including making 6 of 7 free throws in the third quarter alone.
Leopards 1st Win Over Generals Since 1989
The victory is the Leopards first win over the Generals since both teams played in the Federal League back in 1989. Louisville swept Wooster that season defeating the Generals 56-53 at home and 52-46 on the road. Wooster walloped Louisville in their only other two meetings since in 2016 and 2017.
The Lady Leopards now lead the all-time series 5-4, which includes a 3-1 record in games played at Louisville.
