Lady Leopards Rally in 4th Past Quakers 51-41 – Girls Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team defeated the visiting Salem Quakers 51-41 Saturday Afternoon at Louisville High School. The Lady Leopards have now won 4 of their last 5 and improve to 10-3 on the season with the victory.

Barwick and Haren Pour in 14 Each for LHS
Junior Courtney Barwick and senior Brooke Haren both scored a team high 14 points to lead Louisville. Barwick made a pair of three-pointers in the first half, dropped in 8 in the second half, and also added 2 assists for the Lady Leopards. Haren finished with 9 of her 14 points in the opening half as well.
Sophomore Taylor McCully also hit a pair of three-pointers, dished out 3 assists, and scored 9 of her 13 points in the second half. Other scorers for Louisville included junior Chay Cline with 6 and sophomore Mable Kiko & junior Riley Walters with 2 each.
Senior Lexi Wasara led the team in assists with 4, all of which came in the second half. Sophomores Maggie Baker and Sammi Beatty also recorded an assist each.
Leopards Use 12-0 Run to Rally in the 4th
Louisville was in control for he majority of the game leading 13-6 after the first quarter and 23-18 at halftime. However, Salem used a 13-2 run in the third quarter to capture their first lead of the contest and took a 34-31 advantage into the fourth quarter.
The Lady Leopards opened up the final stanza on a 12-0 run to retake command of the game. McCully recorded a steal on defense and threw to Barwick who knotted the game at 34-34. Haren then scored to put Louisville back in front and McCully next cashed in on a three-pointer from the left wing to force a Quaker timeout.
The break in action didn’t stop the Lady Leopards run as McCully and Cline each added layups to put LHS in front 43-34 with 4:15 left in the game.
The Lady Quakers finally snapped the Louisville streak, but the Lady Leopards quickly formulated a new one with a 7-0 run. Barwick scored while being fouled, Haren split a pair of free throws, and Cline scored off an assist from Wasara. McCully then hit home two free throws to give Louisville its largest lead of the contest at 50-36.
The Lady Leopards rolled to their eighth straight home victory after that. The 8-0 home start for Louisville is their best such start since the 2011-12 team finished 10-0 at the home.
Hutton Scores Game High 16 to Lead Quakers
Senior shooting guard Rylee Hutton scored 9 of her game high 16 points in the second half to lead Salem. Senior point guard Lauryn Barton also scored 9 points in the second half, made 2 three-pointers, and finished with 13. Other scorers for the Lady Quakers included junior shooting guard Reese Davidson with 5, sophomore center Maddy Andres with 4, and senior shooting guard Riley Flickinger with 3.
The loss snaps Salem’s 2-game winning streak as they drop to 4-8 on the season.
Louisville Vs. Salem Girls Basketball Series
With the victory, the Lady Leopards have now won back-to-back meetings against the Lady Quakers. Louisville now leads the all-time series 16-8 overall, which includes a 9-3 record when playing inside the friendly confines of Louisville High School.
The Lady Leopards are now 8-0 at home on the season, their best such start since the 2011-12 team finished 10-0 at home.
