8. Undefeated Girls Track & Gentry Wins Regional
After completing their fourth straight 7-0 run through the NBC, our Girls Track Team secured their fifth straight NBC Championship with a first place finish in the NBC Championship Meet at Salem on May 11.
The girls track team was led by Mackenzie Rankin who took first place in four different events. Stephanie Brookens also took first individually in the high jump and the 4×800 Relay team of Rachel Baughman, Sarah Davis, Michelle Stamp, and Haley Davis also captured a first place finish. Altogether the girls squad racked up 135 points, which was good enough for the top spot in the NBC Meet and another Outright NBC Title.
The Boys track team also had a solid season finishing 5-2 in the regular season and taking second just behind Salem at the NBC Meet. They were led by NBC Runner of the Year Chad Gentry. Gentry dominated the Stark County Championships by capturing first place in the 100, 200, and 400 Meter Dashes. He also captured individual Conference, District, and Regional Titles in the 400 Meter Dash.
A week after winning his region, Gentry earned the honor of State Runner-Up in the 400 Meter Dash at the State Meet on June 2. He finished with a time of 48.32, just off his Regional Championship mark of 48.30, but Cleveland John F. Kennedy’s Antwon Smith captured the ultimate prize with a time of 47.44.
