Lady Leopards Fall to Perry in Home Opener 44-36 – Girls Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team fell to the visiting Perry Panthers 44-36 Wednesday Night at Louisville High School. With the loss, Louisville drops to 1-1 on the season.

Barwick Leads Louisville with 22 Points
Senior Courtney Barwick led all scorers with 22 points, including 13 in the second half as Louisville tried to claw back from a double-digit halftime deficit. Barwick’s scoring included a key three-pointer early in the third quarter that cut the Panther lead to seven, but Perry’s strong outside shooting helped the Panthers maintain control.
LHS junior Mabel Kiko pulled down a game high 14 rebounds, scored 6 points, dished out a team best 3 assists, and matched Barwick with 2 blocks. Freshman Ezela Manko dropped in 8 points for the Lady Leopards. Barwick and Manko also tallied 2 assists a piece.
Kleve and Haynes Shine for Perry
The Lady Panthers were paced by junior Lila Kleve, who finished with 8 of her team high 15 points in the second half. Keive’s three-pointer in the second quarter kickstarted an 8-0 Perry run that allowed them to pull ahead by double digits at 23-11.
The sophomore duo of Jenna Haynes and Katelyn Randulic finished with 9 points each. Haynes hit a pair of three-pointers in the opening half. Senior Riley Minor also made 2 shots from beyond the arch in the second half to finish with 6. Junior Makenna Knop rounded out the Panther scoring with 5.
Late Leopard Push Not Enough to Undo Panther Lead
Louisville trailed by as many as 14 with five minutes left in the contest at 42-28. The Leopards responded by shutting out the Panthers from the field the rest of the way and scored the next 8 points to cut the deficit to 42-36 with 27.1 seconds remaining.
Perry removed all doubt when Kleve hit a pair of shots from the free throw line with 16.9 seconds remaining to make the final tally 44-36.
Louisville Vs. Perry Girls Basketball Series
The series between the Leopards and Panthers is an even 5-5 over their last 10 meetings, although Perry has now won 3 of the last 5 meetings. Louisville trails the all-time series 19-24, which includes a 10-11 mark when playing at LHS.
Coming into the contest, the Lady Leopards had won their previous two meetings in 2022 and 2024 by the identical count of 51-49.
