The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team earned a double digit 47-37 win over the host Cleveland Heights Tigers in their season opener Saturday Afternoon. The game was part of the Great Lakes Classic held at Cleveland Heights High School.

Barwick Pours in 27 and is Named Team MVP
Courtney Barwick scored 18 of her game-high 27 points in the opening half to lead the Lady Leopards. She was honored on the court as player of the game following the game.
Louisville trailed 5-0 out of the gate, but Mabel Kiko hit a three-pointer and added another field goal to knot the game at 5-5. Barwick’s first points of the contest gave the Leopards their first lead of the game at 7-5.
Cleveland Heights responded with a 9-0 run to double up LHS’s total at 14-7. However, Barwick added a pair of free throws and a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 14-12. The Tigers would add another basket and held a 16-12 lead when the opening quarter ended.
Louisville opened the second quarter on an 8-0 run and never trailed again. Barwick hit back-to-back buckets via assists from Reagan Biery and Maggie Baker to tie the game at 16-16. Then freshman Ezela Manko scored the first points of her varsity career with a putback that put the Leopards in front 18-16. Barwick added another basket to complete the run.
Cleveland Heights tied the game back up at 20-20, but Louisville responded with 10 unanswered points to close the half. Baker made a three-pointer and Kiko also added a field goal during the run. Barwick scored the other 5 points during the 10-0 run giving her 11 for the quarter as the Lady Leopards took a commanding 30-20 lead into the break.
Kiko Finishes in Double Figures with 10
Louisville never looked back and led by as many as 15 during the third quarter when Kiko hit the back end of two free throw attempts to make it 37-22. She would finish the game in double figures with 10 points.
The Lady Leopards led 37-25 and maintained their double digit advantage throughout the final stanza. Karis Miglich scored all 5 of her points in the fourth quarter matching Barwick who tacked on 5 more during the period as Louisville cruised to victory 47-37.
Evans Scores Team High 12 for Tigers
Dayvon Evans scored 7 of her team high 12 points in the first half to lead Cleveland Heights. Sanai Alexander also scored 7 of her 9 points in the fourth quarter and Robbie Caldwell tacked on 6 for the Lady Tigers.
Louisville is now 2-0 against Cleveland Heights all-time. The Leopards also defeated the Tigers 61-29 in the DI, Northeast 4 sectional semifinals at LHS last season.
UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will next hosts the Perry Panthers in their home opener on Wednesday, November 27. JV will begin at 5:30 PM and Varsity will follow around 7:00 PM from Louisville High School.
