Lady Leopards Nip Panthers on the Road 51-49 – Girls Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team nipped the host Perry Panthers 51-49 Saturday Afternoon at Perry High School. With the victory, Louisville has now won 3 of its last 4 and improves to 11-4 on the season.

Barwick Pours in Game High 19 for Leopards
Junior Courtney Barwick scored 14 of her game high 19 points in the first half to lead the Lady Leopards. She made a pair of three-pointers and scored 8 points in the opening period to help Louisville build an 18-5 advantage. Barwick would add 6 more points in the second quarter as the Lady Leopards took a commanding 26-15 advantage into the locker room.
Perry would outscore Louisville 23-11 in the third quarter to take a stunning 38-37 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Haren Scores 11 in the 4th to Lead LHS Rally
Senior Brooke Haren scored 11 of her 15 points in the final stanza to help lead the Lady Leopards fourth quarter comeback. Haren buried a pair of free throws and made 4 shots from the field over the final minutes allowing LHS to edge the Panthers.
Other scorers for Louisville included sophomore Taylor McCully with 7, junior Chay Cline with 6, and senior Lexi Wasara with 4.
Pireu Leads Panthers with Team High 18
Senior guard Marlee Pireu scored 10 of her team high 18 points in the third quarter to lead Perry’s comeback effort.
Junior guard Riley Minor and Ally Mattox also made 3 three-pointers each for the Lady Panthers. Minor would finish with 12 of her 15 points in the second half. Mattox would also finish with all 9 of her points in the second half. PHS would hit 8 three-pointers as a team in total.
Louisville & Perry Experience Deja Vu
While the location was different, the 51-49 score is identical to their previous meeting last season. The Lady Leopards defeated the Lady Panthers 51-49 back at Louisville High School on December 10, 2022. Haren hit a buzzer beater three-pointer to lift LHS in that one.

Louisville is now 19-23 against Perry all-time dating back to their first meeting at PHS in 1975. The Lady Leopards also improve to 7-12 in games played at Perry all-time.
Louisville is now 4-0 against Federal League foes this season.
