Leopards Notch 70th Win Over Dukes 45-40 – Girls Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team rallied to defeat the visiting Marlington Dukes 45-40 Wednesday Night at Louisville High School With the victory, Louisville improves to 9-3 on the season.


Barwick Leads Louisville with 14

Freshman Courtney Barwick hit 4 three-pointers and scored 11 of her game high 14 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Leopards. Senior Kelsey Adelman and sophomore Brooke Haren also dropped in 12 points each for Louisville.


Tight Contest Through Three Quarters

Neither team led by more than four points through the first three quarters of action. The Dukes ended the first quarter on a 9-2 run to take a 14-11 lead. The Leopards snatched the lead back in the second quarter and held a slim 21-19 advantage at the break.

Louisville found themselves trailing again in the third quarter as Marlington opened up a 28-25 lead. A jumper by Haren cut the deficit to 28-27 with three minutes to play in the period and that score would remain intact until the fourth quarter.


Barwick Hits 3 Three-Pointers in the 4th

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdAfter a jump ball in the opening minute of the fourth quarter, Adelman canned a three-pointer from the left wing to knot the game at 30-30. The seesaw affair continued as the Dukes would take the lead and the Leopards would answer. Barwick hit a three-pointer to put Louisville ahead 35-34 with 4:48 to play, but Marlington sophomore Chelsea Evanich would give the Dukes the lead back.

The Leopards finally pulled ahead with back-to-back buckets by Barwick. She drove inside and popped a short floater from the left side of the hoop to put LHS in front 37-36. Less than a minute later, Barwick hit home a three from the far left corner to put Louisville up 40-36 with 2:47. The bench erupted in response.

Marlington’s Elizabeth Mason shrunk the Leopard lead to 40-39 when she scored on a layup while being fouled and converted at the line. Louisville would answer back a minute and a half later when Barwick would cash in on another three-pointer from the left corner to extend the Leopard lead to 43-39. 


Loy Ices Game With Late Layup

Lingenhoel Group - Arden and Lisa Lingenhoel - Cutler Real Estate AdMason hit the front end of a pair of free throw attempts with 20.5 seconds remaining to cut it a one possession contest at 43-40.

Louisville aggressively pushed the ball down the floor past the Marlington press on the ensuing possession. Barwick passed to Haren across the timeline. Haren then relayed a pass to senior Kendal Loy who was wide open in front of the baseline. She dribbled once and scored the easy layup with 10 seconds left to ice the game at 45-40.


Evanich Scores Game High 14 for Dukes

Evanich led the Lady Dukes (9-2) in matching Barwick with a game high 14 points. Lexi Miller and junior point guard Maria Warner also added 7 each for Marlington.


Leopards & Dukes Clash for Record 90th Time

Jenny Can Cleaning AdThe Lady Leopards have now defeated the Lady Dukes in 4 of their last 5 meetings dating back to 2018. This was the 90th meeting between the two neighbor rivals with Louisville now leading the series 70-20 overall, which includes a 34-11 record at home. The Leopards have now defeated the Dukes in 11 of their past 12 meetings played at LHS since 2010.

This 90th game played against Marlington and 45th home game played against the Dukes tie team records against a single opponent. Louisville has also played Canton South 90 times, leading the series 65-25. They have also hosted the Wildcats 45 times, holding a 35-10 record in those home games.
