Miller Throws Second Straight 1-Hit Shutout

Jenny Can Cleaning AdSophomore starting pitcher Cole Miller threw a one-hit shutout and struck out five to lead the Leopards on the mound. This is the second one-hit shutout Miller has throw in as many starts as he also threw a five inning one-hit shutout against Revere last Saturday.

The only hit Miller allowed came in the opening inning when Nordonia sophomore left fielder Jack Waid got aboard via a two-out liner to right field. Miller was nearly perfect in facing the minimum the rest of the way. His only other blemish came when he hit sophomore second baseman Dash Lanzilotta with a pitch after tossing the count full. Two pitches later, Miller got senior shortstop Rocco Covelli to ground into a 6-4-3 double play to end the frame.

Miller would retire the side in order in five of the seven innings he pitched including the bottom of the seventh to seal his second victory of the season.

Leopards Find a Way Vs. Whetzel

Senior starting pitcher Zach Whetzel pitched six innings and struck out 11 to lead the Knights. However, the Leopards offense still found a way to push across three runs to secure the win.

In the second inning, Miller added to his own cause by drawing a four-pitch walk to start the frame. Junior Caleb Harsh replaced Miller as a courtesy runner, stole second, and advanced to third on a groundout. With two outs, sophomore second baseman Andrew Corona reached base on an error by the shortstop allowing Harsh to score from third to give Louisville the first advantage of the game.

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdThe Leopards tacked on two more insurance runs in the top of the sixth. Senior shortstop JT Popick singled to start the inning and then came home after junior center fielder Charlie Roberts reached base on an error. Roberts advanced to second on the error, to third on a wild pitch, and then came home when junior catcher Karson Siegfried doubled to center recording the only RBI of the contest.

Louisville out-hit Nordonia 3-1. Senior third baseman Caleb Miller led off the fifth with a single for the Leopards only other base hit in the game.
