Lady Leopards Take Early Lead, Dukes Rally to Force Tie – Girls Soccer

The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Soccer Team tied the host Marlington Dukes 2-2 Wednesday at the Marlington Soccer Stadium. With the draw, Louisville is now 1-1-2 on the season.
Louisville Jumps Out to 2-0 1st Half Lead
The Lady Leopards got on the board first with a pair of first half goals. Senior Morgan Keelan gave Louisville a 1-nil advantage at the 30:10 mark of the opening half via an assist from sophomore Matti Benson. The goal was Keelan’s second of the season and the assist was Benson’s second of the year as well.
Keelan also notched her second assist of the campaign a little less than 14 minutes later. She setup sophomore Natalie Lab who found the back of the net at the 16:31 mark to give Louisville a 2-0 advantage. The goal was also Lab’s second of the year.
Marlington Rallies to Force Tie
Marlington managed to tie the game in a span of less than four minutes of game time. The Lady Dukes chopped the Leopard lead in half with 3:20 to go before the break. After halftime, it took MHS just 35 seconds to find the back of the net again to tie the contest.
Neither team would score during the final 39:25 and the result was a 2-2 tie.
Leopards Hold Advantage in Shots & Corner Kicks
Junior goalkeeper Amelia Henderhan finished with 7 saves for LHS.
Louisville more than doubled up Marlington on shots 20-9 for the game. The Lady Leopards also held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks for the match.
Louisville Vs. Marlington Girls Soccer History
This is just the second tie in the rivalry between Louisville and Marlington in girls soccer. The Leopards also tied the Dukes 1-1 at home back on September 29, 2004.
Marlington leads the all-time series 10-7-2, but Louisville still holds a 5-4-1 advantage when playing at MHS.
