The Louisville Leopards Varsity Volleyball Team fell in five sets against the host Canfield Cardinals in their season opener Tuesday Evening. Canfield rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Louisville 13-25, 22-25, 25-16, 25-22, 15-12.
Senior Paige Cole posted 31 kills to lead the Lady Leopards offense. This is the second highest single-match mark in team history. Cole owns the single match team record with 37, which she accomplished in last year’s regular season finale against Claymont. Cole now owns the 6 best single match performances in terms of highest number of kills in Louisville Volleyball history.
Freshman Addison Burick led the team in serving in her varsity debut. She tallied 16 service points including 7 straight in the second set. The Lady Leopards trailed the Cardinals 20-15 before taking a 22-20 advantage. The Senior tandem of Cole and Lauren Siegfried thew down most of the kills during the 7-0 run. Louisville went on to win the set 25-22 to take a commanding 2-0 lead.
Burick registered a team leading 29 assists and Siegfried tallied 27 assist to setup the LHS offense. On defense, Senior Sydney Bast led the Leopards with 22 digs.
The Lady Cards seized momentum and rallied to win the final three sets. Louisville is now 0-4 against Canfield since the Leopards defeated them in their 2015 DI District Semifinal matchup.

UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will next host the Boardman Spartans on Thursday, August 27. JV will begin at 5:00 PM and Varsity will follow around 6:00 PM.
