The Louisville Leopards Varsity Volleyball Team made quick work of the visiting Canfield Cardinals sweeping them in three sets 25-16, 25-23, 25-19 Monday Night at Louisville High School. With their third straight victory, Louisville improves to 13-5 on the season.
Burick Breaks LHS Career Assists Record
Trailing 23-22 in the second set, senior setter Addison Burick got ready to set a dig by junior defensive specialist Madie ElFaye. Burick passed crosscourt to senior opposite hitter Sloane Sypolt who slammed it home just inside the white inbound line for the kill to knot the game at 23-23.
Burick was quickly embraced by sophomore middle hitter/outside hitter Taylor McCully, fellow senior outside hitter Brooke Haren, and the rest of her teammates soon after. The assist was career number 1,793 for Burick as she passed Amanda Jaeb’s (2004-2007) 16 year old career record of 1,792 on the play.
Play stopped and the record was announced. Burick was congratulated by her teammates and coaches as applause rang throughout the LHS gymnasium. Burick then embraced her mother, Angie Burick, in the front row and handed her the ball that was used on the record-breaking play.
After a close battle in the second set, Louisville seized all momentum and took the final two points after the stoppage for a 25-23 set win. The Leopards would then take the third set 25-19 to sweep the Cardinals.
