Louisville Strikes First Behind Twinem and Claugus
Louisville jumped ahead early, striking in the top of the first when Kaitlin Twinem doubled to center and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Leah Claugus to make it 1-0.
Walsh answered right away in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game on a bunt and a defensive miscue that allowed leadoff hitter Ella Girard to circle the bases.
Miller 2-Run Single Put Leopards Back in Front
The Leopards reclaimed the lead in the third inning. Taylor Thompson started the rally with a leadoff double and moved to third on a single by Twinem. Katelynn Miller followed with a clutch two-out, two-run single to plate both runners and give Louisville a 3-1 advantage.
Warriors Answer With Two Five-Run Innings
The Lady Leopards’ momentum was short-lived.
Walsh Jesuit exploded for five runs in the bottom of the third to swing the game in their favor. A walk and single set the table for catcher Caleigh Shaulis, who smashed a three-run homer to dead center to give the Warriors a 4-3 lead. Later in the inning, Gianna Terlop ripped a two-run double that extended the Walsh Jesuit lead to 6-3.
Shae O’Neill led off the fifth with an infield single, but a double play and strikeout extinguished the Louisville rally attempt.
In the bottom of the sixth, Walsh Jesuit took complete command with another five-run outburst. Girard delivered a two-run double, Renee Brown followed with an RBI single, and McKayla McGee capped off the inning with a two-run homer to left to make it 11-3 Warriors.
Campbell Homers in Seventh
The Leopards showed late life in the seventh when Bailee Griffith led off with a double and Addy Campbell followed with a towering two-run homer to center to cut the deficit to 11-5. O’Neill also doubled later in the inning, but the comeback effort came up short.
O’Neill and Twinem both went 2-for-3 at the plate to account for half of Louisville’s base hits.
Girard Leads Warriors to 4-0 Start
Walsh Jesuit (4-0) was led by Girard who went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, two RBIs, a double, and a stolen base.
McGee contributed both at the plate and in the circle—collecting two hits and two RBIs while pitching a complete game with eight hits allowed, five earned runs, and three strikeouts. Shaulis and Terlop also had multi-RBI games for the Warriors, who tallied 12 hits as a team.
Walsh Jesuit Evens Series with Louisville
Walsh Jesuit has now defeated Louisville in their past two matchups to even the all-time series at 2-2. The Lady Leopards defeated the Warriors 3-0 at home in 2010 and 4-3 on the road in 2019. Walsh Jesuit claimed the only other matchup at Louisville 7-4 back in 2023.
