Louisville Edges Walsh Jesuit 4-3 – Softball

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Softball Team edged the host Walsh Jesuit Warriors 4-3 Wednesday Evening to improve to 17-3 on the season.
Justina Sirohman batted a perfect 3-for-3 to lead Louisville who cracked 8 hits as a team. Sarah Cantley also went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and earned the win in the circle. She threw a complete game, gave up 3 earned runs on 6 hits, and struck out 10. Cantley is now 12-2 on the season.
After two scoreless innings, the Leopards got on the board in the top of the third. Sirohman and Lexi Zavarelle singled to start the frame. Then Sydney McKeever fouled off five pitches during her at-bat before drawing a walk to load the bases. Teagan Rice delivered a 2-run single to center in the next at-bat to make it 2-0. Then Kaycee Ollis hit a sacrifice fly scoring McKeever to put Louisville in command 3-0.
The Warriors got a pair of runs back in the bottom of the fourth. Julia Bentley hit a 2-out, 2-run homer to center that also scored Riley Zana to cut the Leopard lead to 3-2. Louisville counted in the top of the fifth when Ollis walked and Cantley doubled her home from first to make it 4-2 LHS.
Neither team scored in their next inning at the plate, but Walsh chipped into the lead again in the sixth inning. Zana hit a line drive homer to center field to cut the deficit to 4-3. However, the key to the Leopards victory came just one pitch before when Ollis gunned down the Warrior baserunner at second base via Rice’s tag from shortstop. Had that runner been on base, the game would have been tied on Zana’s blast.
Instead, Cantley took care of the rest retiring the Warriors in the sixth and retiring the side in the seventh on back-to-back strikeouts. The Lady Leopards are now 2-0 against Walsh Jesuit all-time.
