Leopards Score First, but Blue Streaks Strike Twice in 2-1 Loss – Girls Soccer

The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Soccer Team struck first on a free-kick goal by senior Haile Folk but was unable to hold off the host Lake Blue Streaks in a 2-1 loss Saturday night at Blue Streaks Stadium. Lake rallied behind a pair of goals from senior Kyla Brinton to hand Louisville its second loss of the season.

With the setback, the Lady Leopards drop to 5-2 while the Blue Streaks improve to 6-3.

Folk Free Kick Puts Leopards in Front

Louisville opened the scoring in the first half when Folk converted a free kick to give the Lady Leopards a 1-0 advantage.

The goal was Louisville’s only tally of the night as Lake goalkeeper Layla Morgan and the Blue Streak defense held the Leopards scoreless the rest of the way.

Louisville finished with four shots on goal, with Morgan making three saves for Lake.

Brinton Scores in Both Halves to Rally Lake

Brinton provided all of Lake’s offense, scoring once in each half to turn Louisville’s 1-0 advantage into a 2-1 deficit.

Her first goal pulled the Blue Streaks even before halftime, sending the teams into the break tied at 1-1.

Brinton struck again in the second half to give Lake its first lead of the night at 2-1. That score would hold through the final whistle.

April Fockler also recorded an assist for the Blue Streaks during the contest.

Edgein Makes Seven Saves, Stops Penalty Kick

Senior goalkeeper Tristyn Edgein faced nine shots on goal and turned away seven of them to keep Louisville within striking distance throughout the match.

One of Edgein’s stops came on a Lake penalty kick, denying the Blue Streaks from the spot. Despite that effort, Brinton’s two finishes proved enough for Lake to secure the one-goal victory.

The Blue Streaks finished with a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Lake Takes 15th Win in All-Time Series

Saturday marked the 24th all-time meeting between Louisville and Lake. The Blue Streaks now lead the series 15-4-5 and hold a 9-2-2 advantage when hosting the Lady Leopards.

Lake’s victory was its first over Louisville since 2022. The Lady Leopards had gone unbeaten in the previous three meetings, defeating the Blue Streaks 2-1 in 2023, playing to a scoreless draw in 2024, and winning 5-2 in 2025.

Lake has now outscored Louisville 71-38 across the all-time series.
