The Louisville Leopards Varsity Softball Team fell 6-0 on the road against the Boardman Spartans Tuesday evening at Boardman High School. The Spartans used timely hitting and dominant pitching to hand the Leopards their first loss of the 2025 campaign as they drop to 1-1.
Claugus Reaches Twice to Lead Louisville
Leah Claugus led the Leopards at the plate going 2-for-2 with a double, single, and walk. Addy Campbell also finished 1-for-3 with a single in the fourth inning.
Louisville stranded five runners and couldn’t push any across. Their best scoring chance came in the top of the seventh when they put two aboard with no outs, but three straight outs—including a pickoff—ended the threat.
Strines Shuts Down Leopards
Leopard batters struggled to string hits together against Tori Strines, who pitched a complete game shutout. She allowed just 3 hits, walked 3, and struck out 8.
Strines also contributed offensively with a home run and a double, finishing 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs. Gabi Sferra and Alex Ward matched Strines going 2-for-3 at the plate for the Lady Spartans. Both of Sferra’s hits were doubles.
Strines Homer Sparks Boardman
Boardman broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning when Strines blasted a two-run home run over the left field fence following a hit-by-pitch to Jocelynn Torres in the previous at-bat.
The Spartans tacked on two more runs in the fifth. Strines and Ava Freeborough led off the frame with back-to-back doubles to bring home Strines for the third run. Later in the inning, Addie Rudge hit a sacrifice fly that plated Freeborough to make it 4-0 Boardman.
The Spartans added two more insurance runs in the sixth to take a commanding 6-0 advantage. Torres drove in Laci Jurus on a groundout. Strines intentionally got into a rundown between first and second, which allowed Mikayla Rivera to steal home before Strines was tagged for the third out.
Schneider Strikes Out 6 in Loss
Sophomore Taylor Schneider made her season debut in the circle and threw a complete game for Louisville. She struck out 6 while allowing 6 earned runs on 10 hits. Schneider held the Spartans scoreless through two innings and forced several tough outs to limit further damage.
Spartans Even Series with Leopards
The series between the two teams is now tied 1-1. Louisville won at Boardman 9-4 in their only other matchup back in 2021.
