The #14 seed Louisville Leopards Girls Lacrosse Team dominated the second half to earn a 16-7 Division II, Region 6 opening round win over the visiting #17 seed Shaker Heights Laurel Gators. With the victory, Louisville improves to 9-6 on the season and advances to play at #2 seed Chardon in the second round of the DII, Region 6 Girls Lacrosse Tournament on Thursday, May 18 at 6:00 PM.
Hubbard Sets School Record with 7 Goals
Senior Brooke Hubbard scored a team tournament record 7 goals to lead the Lady Leopards to their first tournament victory since 2018. Hubbard scored a pair of goals in the first half and then poured it on with 5 more goals in the second half.
The previous tournament record was held by Mandy Wesely who scored 5 goals in Louisville’s only tournament shutout in 2018, a 17-0 win over the Beachwood Bison at Mount Union Stadium. To put Hubbard’s performance into perspective, the Lady Leopards never amassed more than 6 goals as a team in each of their last 4 tournament games since that Beachwood victory.
Hubbard’s 7 scores ties her for the third best single game goal-scoring performance in Lady Leopards Lacrosse History. Alexa Oberster still holds the single game record scoring 9 goals twice in 2017. Oberster scored 9 goals in a 18-4 home win against St. Vincent-St. Mary and 9 again when Louisville won their 2017 season finale at Poland 20-3 to finish off a perfect regular season. Oberster also scored 7 goals at home Vs. Lake in 2016. Emily Hollified was also the first Lady Leopard to ever score 7 goals in a single game that came in Louisville Girls Lacrosse’s inaugural game at Lake on April 2, 2016.
Spehar Records Hat Trick
Senior Kalli Spehar also recorded a hat trick for the Lady Leopards with all three of her goals coming in the second half. The two teams played to a 6-6 tie before Louisville outscored Laurel 10-1 in the second half to earn a convincing 9 goal win.
Seven different Lady Leopards players found the back of the net during the game. Seniors Tess Golden and Olivia Marcantonio both tallied a pair of goals in the first half. Sophomore Cheyanne Franklin and senior Kylee Murphy also got on the board in the second half to round out Louisville’s goal scorers.
Marcantonio unofficially recorded at least 2 assists and Murphy had another for LHS.
Leopards Vs. Gators Girls Lacrosse History
The Lady Leopards are now 2-1 against the Lady Gators all-time. Louisville lost at Laurel 16-6 in their 2019 tournament game. The Leopards also defeated the Gators at Louisville Leopards Stadium 12-5 earlier this season on April 15.

Louisville’s 1st Tournament Win Since 2018
Saturday’s win over Laurel marks the Lady Leopards first tournament victory since trouncing the Beachwood Bison 17-0 on May 17, 2018. Louisville had lost their previous 4 tournament games coming into the match by a combined score of 62-16, but they ended that streak with a double digit victory Saturday.
This also marks the Lady Leopards’ first win at Louisville Leopards Stadium since their inaugural tournament game, an 11-10 win over Gilmour Academy on May 17, 2016. The Lady Leopards are now 3-6 all-time in tournament play, which includes a 2-0 record at home and a 2-5 record when playing in Division II.
