The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Soccer Team defeated the visiting Lakewood Rangers 4-1 Saturday Night at Louisville Leopards Stadium. With the victory, Louisville improves to 2-1 on the young season.
Beatty Scores Pair of Goals to Lead Leopards
Sophomore Sammi Beatty scored a pair of goals to lead the Lady Leopards. Senior Paige Folk delivered a free kick to the left side of the box. Beatty redirected it right over the head of the Ranger goalkeeper and into the back of the net. What would prove to be the deciding goal put Louisville ahead 2-0 with 10:32 remaining in the first half.
Beatty added a second goal in the second half. She took a hard shot with her right foot that boomeranged back to her off a Lakewood defender. Beatty then used her left foot to line a kick into the top center of the back of the net giving Louisville a commanding 4-1 lead with 7:59 left to play.
Folk Celebrates Birthday with Goal
The Rangers trimmed the Leopard lead to 2-1 early in the second half. However, Folk answered back near the end of the 46th minute by lacing a free kick into the top right corner of the net from 26 yards away.
Folk, who wears number 18, was celebrating her 18th birthday during Monday’s game. The goal was the third of her career coming at the 34:08 mark of the second half. 3+(3+4+0+8) = 18.
Schillig Scores Opening Goal
Earlier in the contest, sophomore Alyssa Schillig put the Leopards on the board first in the 20th minute. Junior Payton Allan delivered a perfect pass between two Lakewood defenders. Schillig gained control, dribbled to the edge of the penalty box, and shot the ball past the charging goalkeeper and into the left side of the net. The goal was the first of the season for Schillig and the ninth of her career.
This was the first ever meeting between Louisville and Lakewood in girls soccer. The Rangers are the 68th unique opponent Lady Leopards Soccer has faced since the program began in 2003.
