Four Finish in Double Figures as Louisville Blasts Boardman 80-51 – Boys Basketball

The #6 ranked Louisville Leopards demolished the visiting Boardman Spartans 80-51 Saturday Night at Louisville High School. With their 12th straight victory, Louisville improves to 13-1 on the season.

Gross Pours in Game High 24 for LHS

Equitable Advisors - Bryce MathieJunior forward Brayden Gross made 10 field goals and scored a game high 24 points to lead the Leopards. Gross was consistent throughout scoring 7 in the first quarter, 5 in the second quarter, 8 in the third quarter, and 4 in the fourth quarter before Louisville emptied its bench.

The Leopards trailed 2-0 at the onset, but scored the next 7 points and never fell behind again. Louisville used an 8-0 run later in the quarter to go up 17-6 before taking a 19-12 lead by the time the horn sounded to conclude the first quarter.  The Leopards used another 7-0 run early on in the second quarter to build a double digit advantage and carried a 36-24 lead into the break.


Four Finish in Double Figures for Leopards

Four different Louisville players finished in double figures on the evening. Senior guard Hayden Nigro and junior point guard Beau Siegfried each made 2 three-pointers in the third quarter. Nigro would finish with 9 of his 19 points, and Siegfried would finish with 10 of his 13 points in the third quarter as well. 

Louisville established firm control of the game with a 10-0 run early on in the second half to pull ahead 50-26 before extending their lead to 65-35 by the end of the third quarter. The Leopards led by as many as 32 in the fourth quarter before taking home the convincing 80-51 victory. Junior Ashton Marshall also reached double figures in the fourth quarter and ended the evening with 12.

Other scorers for Louisville included junior Tate Aljancic with 5, sophomore Luke Boldon with 3, junior Avery Andrejcik with 2, and junior Austin Wade with 2. 


Mayhew Scores Team High 15 to Lead Spartans

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdJunior point guard Kaden Mayhew scored 7 of his team high 15 points in the fourth quarter to lead Boardman. Junior small forward Terrell McDowell also registered double figures with 10 and senior power forward Nico Holzschuh tacked on 9.

The Spartans (3-11) have now lost 11 straight games after starting the season 3-0.


Louisville Vs. Boardman Series

The Leopards still trail the all-time series 11-20 in known records dating back to 1933 when both schools played in the Tri-County League. Louisville has claimed 4 of the last 5 matchups played at Louisville overall.

The 131 total points scored is the most for any single game in this 91 year old series. The 29-point margin is tied for the second most in the all-time matchup, matching a 63-34 win over Boardman in the 1947-48 season (the first season that Louisville was nicknamed the Leopards). Only the 2016 matchup was a bigger blowout in favor of the Leopards 81-42.
