Leopards Tame Tigers 71-47 in District Final Rematch – Boys Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Basketball Team downed the visiting Warren Howland Tigers 71-47 Tuesday Night at Louisville High School. The game was a rematch of last year’s DII Ashtabula District Championship game and it yielded the same outcome. The Leopards have now won six straight games as they improve to 6-2 on the season.

Aljancic and Nigro Score 19 Each for LHS
Senior wing Will Aljancic and junior guard Hayden Nigro scored a game high 19 points each to lead Louisville. Nigro made 4 of his game best 5 three-pointers in the opening quarter to set the tone early for the Leopards. Aljancic hit a pair of three-pointers en rout to finishing with 10 points in the third quarter as LHS opened up a double digit second half advantage.
Sophomore forward Brayden Gross also reached double figures with 16. Gross converted 8 of 11 shots from the charity line and Louisville finished 10 of 14 (71%) from the free throw stripe for the night as a team.
Louisville Buries 11 Three-Pointers
The Leopards made 11 three-pointers as a team while the Tigers made just one shot from beyond the arch for the game. This proved to be more than the difference in the final outcome.
Senior guard Kyle Vesely made 3 three-pointers and finished with 9 points. Senior point guard Charlie Roberts also registered a three-pointer for his only points of the contest.
Louisville cashed in on a team road record 13 three-point field goals in their 71-65 regular season loss at Warren Howland last year. This year they followed it up with 11 more and a victory.
Henry Score 10 in Opening Half for Howland
Junior Alex Henry scored all of his team high 10 points in the opening half to lead the Tigers. Senior Vasili Gentis made Howland’s only three-pointer in scoring 9. Seniors Connor Durig and Brandon Null also added 8 each for HHS.
The Leopards held a slim 22-18 margin at the end of the first quarter, but outscored the Tigers 49-29 the rest of the way to secure the victory. Louisville led 35-26 at the half and pulled ahead 55-40 by the end of the third quarter. The Leopards outscored the Tigers 16-7 in the final period to earn victory by a margin of two dozen.
Leopards Vs. Tigers Head-to-Head Series
The Leopards have now won two straight against the Tigers with their previous victory coming in the DII Ashtabula District Championship 63-56 last season at Lakeside High School. Louisville now leads the all-time series 6-1 dating back to their first meeting at Lake’s Hoops for Healing Charity Games in 2012. The Leopards are now an undefeated 3-0 against Howland when playing at LHS.

UP NEXT:The Leopards will next travel to Gaylord Palms Resort in Kissimmee, Florida for the KSA Events Holiday Tournament from December 27-29. They will open up against the Pisgah Black Bears from North Carolina on Tuesday, December 27 at 11:00 AM. They will play two other games on Wednesday, December 28 at 3:30 PM and Thursday, December 29 at 9:30 AM with opponents to be determined.
