Lady Leopards Sweep Green to Win Sectional Title – Volleyball

The #6 seed Louisville Leopards Volleyball Team swept the visiting #19 seed Green Bulldogs 25-22, 25-15, 25-22 in the DI Northeast 1 Sectional Finals Saturday evening at Louisville High School. With the victory, Louisville improves to 18-5 and advances to the DI Northeast 1 District Semifinals held at Mentor High School on Tuesday, October 24 at 7:30 PM.

Burick Records 2000th Assist
Senior setter Addison Burick finished with a team high 33 assists and 10 service points to lead the Lady Leopards. During the third set, Burick recorded her milestone 2000th assist. The senior setter continues to add to her record total now with 2,006 career assists.
Louisville got contributions from the entire team. Senior outside hitter Brooke Haren and sophomore middle hitter/outside hitter Taylor McCully both finished with a team leading 9 kills. Haren and senior setter/defensive specialist Madie ElFaye also both had team best 10 service points with ElFaye tallying an ace.
The defense was led by junior defensive specialist Riley Walters who finished with a team high 20 digs. McCully and fellow sophomore middle hitter/outside hitter Mabel Kiko also recorded a team leading 4 blocks each.
Lady Leopards 1st Sectional Title Since 2020
The tournament win is the Lady Leopards first since they defeated New Philadelphia at home in the 2020 District Semifinals 25-22, 22-25, 25-14, 25-14. It is also their first tournament sweep since defeating Kent Roosevelt at home in the 2020 Sectional Semifinals 25-19, 25-15, 25-21.
Louisville is now an even 16-16 in the tournament since entering Division I in 2007, which includes a 4-4 record since Head Coach Alicia Mihelic took over the program in 2019. The Lady Leopards are 22-19 in the postseason overall since rally scoring was invoked in 2004.
1st Tournament Match Vs. Green Since 1992
This was the second known time that Louisville and Green matched up in a tournament game. The other came in a DII Sectional Semifinal at Fairless High School on October 20, 1992. The Lady Leopards also swept that match 15-9, 15-8.
This is the sixth known all-time meeting between Louisville and Green with the series being tied 3-3. Louisville holds a 2-1 edge over the Lady Bulldogs when playing at home in the series. They also defeated Green in their Play for the Cure match earlier this season on September 20.
Louisville Travels to Mentor to Challenge Riverside
The #7 seed Painesville Riverside Beavers made quick work of the #26 seed Kent Roosevelt Rough Riders in a three set sweep 25-22, 25-14, 25-15 to win their sectional. The match was also played at Louisville following the the Leopards and Bulldogs sectional final match.
Louisville will take on Painesville Riverside on Tuesday, October 24 at Mentor High School in the District Semifinals beginning at 7:30 PM. Host #2 seed Mentor will take on #13 seed Mayfield in the other District Semifinal match beforehand starting at 6:00 PM.
UP NEXT: The #6 seed Lady Leopards Volleyball Team will next face the #7 seed Painesville Riverside Beavers in the DI Northeast 1 District Semifinals on Tuesday, October 24 at 7:30 PM from Mentor High School.
